Naperville Named One of America’s Safest Cities

Naperville has long been known as one of the state’s safest cities, but it’s even getting national attention now.  According to a new ranking released by Niche and Homes.com, Naperville is the safest city to move to in the entire United States, based on several different crime statistics.  “Naperville is not only impressive in its lack of crime, (it) also has an excellent school district and an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent,” the ranking said. “Pack your bags, Naperville has a lot to offer!”  Four of the 10 cities ranked by the website were based in California, including Irvine (number two) and Thousand Oaks (number three).  Provo, UT and Round Rock, TX rounded out the top five in the rankings.  Only one other Midwest city made the cut, as Ann Arbor, MI, home of the University of Michigan, checked in at number six.  Published 3 hours ago

Report: Arrieta, Davis Turn Down Cubs’ Qualifying Offers

Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis have both turned down their qualifying offers from the Chicago Cubs , according to a new report.  Both players were offered a one-year, $17.4 million deal by the Cubs, but both rejected the offer as they look to cash in on the open market by becoming unrestricted free agents.  Cubs’ MLB.com reporter Carrie Muskat broke the news on Thursday afternoon.  Arrieta, who made just under $16 million last season, will arguably be the top free agent starting pitcher on the market, and could command a contract in excess of $150 million with numerous teams in pursuit of his services. 2018 Free Agency: Cubs Hitting the Market As for Davis, he’ll still command a hefty deal after making $10 million a season ago.

Two men were caught on camera entering an Uptown building and exiting with electronics and valuables that belong to a local resident. The victim, who NBC 5 is not naming out of their concerns for safety, said Thursday the men made off with multiple other items from the building in the 4700 block of North Sheridan Road.
