R&B Heartthrobs Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams will perform live at THE VIBE This Sunday
CHICAGO (September 1 ) — Dragon Bleu Vodka presents “Sippin’ on Sunday Reunion” on September 5, Labor Day Weekend, with two R&B titans who personify the light skinned, curly hair ideal: Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams.
The two legends will perform live in concert at THE VIBE, located at 1543 N. Kingsbury in Chicago beginning at midnight. “Christopher and I are definitely looking forward to giving the sexy ladies in Chicago a show. It’s what we both love to do and we’ve been blessed with the talent and longevity to still be a force after being in the game for three decades,” said Al B. Sure!
To a generation of adults who grew up listening to the silky brand of R&B made popular by Williams and Al B. Sure! –called New Jack Swing– the long Labor Day Weekend provides a perfect opportunity to groove the Sunday night away with friends who are in Chicago for the holiday.
“We know some people might take offense to us playing up the light skin, curly hair angle, but they should just come kick it and have a good time. After Michael [Jordan] started rocking the bald look back in the ‘90s, things got a little rough on light-skinned, pretty boy types, but Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams have light skin and curly hair, and the ladies still dig them. It is what it is and we’re just having some fun with it,” said Kenny Johnson, who, along with Jasper Robinson, is organizing the concert and after party at THE VIBE.
Sippin’ on Sunday has been a staple of Chicago’s social scene for the city’s urban professionals since 1996. Sunday’s concert and party until 4 a.m. will be a reunion that brings together people who don’t normally party on Sunday nights. DJ Vince Adams and Joe Kollege will hold down the 1s and 2s with a mixture of R&B, Hip Hop, and old-school sounds.
