Chicago, Illinois-A shy man named Arthur Murray began teaching the world to dance 100 years ago in 1912. We, at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios of Chicago, are thrilled that the City of Chicago has joined in our celebration by naming April 4th, 2012, Arthur Murray Day! (It’s Arthur’s actual Birthday) To kick off our celebration, we will be having 200 of our staff and students dancing a flash mob ‘dance’ in Millennium Park at the Bean at 5:15pm.
We will then go to the Chicago Hilton Hotel on Michigan Avenue for our 100 year Birthday Bash and Competition. The evening will feature Amateur One-Dance competitions celebrating every decade Arthur Murray has been teaching; from a 1920’s Charleston Competition to the 1950’s Lindy Hop, from the 1970’s Hustle to the Salsa of the 90’s. And the judges you ask?? Some of your favorite Chicago celebrities like Dina Bair of WGN, Desmond Clark, former NFL player, Jason Knowles of ABC, and Kim Vatis of NBC will be on the panel of adjudicators, just to name a few. For the finale, our guests will be treated to a Professional Show by Arthur Murray Rhythm Champions, Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine and Liana! Tickets are still available for the evening through the studios or at ChicagoArthurMurray.com.
In addition to this spectacular evening of food, fun, and dancing; we are committed to serving the Chicago community (our Dancing with Chicago Celebrities event just raised $351k for Susan G. Komen for the Cure!). Therefore, we will be donating $5 of every private lesson taken in our schools that week, to the fight against breast cancer. If you ever wanted to try your hand, or feet, at learning to dance, next week would be the time!
