GLENVIEW, Ill. (STMW) — An 18-year-old from Glenview is charged with robbing a 7-Eleven of cigarettes and firewood, while armed with a large knife, then struggling with and spitting in the face of two police officers as they tried to apprehend him.
Christopher T. Brown, of the 3400 block of Henley in Glenview, is charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and three counts of resisting arrest as a result of a Friday incident at the 7-Eleven store located at 3703 Central St. in unincorporated Glenview, according to Cook County Sheriff’s office release.
At approximately 4 p.m. Friday, Brown is alleged to have gone around the counter at the store and threatened the cashier with a large kitchen knife, the release said.
He demanded cigarettes and got two cartons and one pack of Newports. As he left the store, Brown passed a stack of firewood being sold just outside the door. He grabbed a bundle of wood and then fled west on foot, the release said.
The cashier had already triggered a silent alarm and told police he was watching Brown carry the cigarettes and firewood across Milwaukee Avenue. Cook County Sheriff’s Police found him walking in the area and arrested him.
Brown, according to the release, resisted getting in the car and began struggling with police. He spit in the face of two officers, but was ultimately restrained and taken to the Cook County Sheriff’s Police headquarters in Maywood for processing.
He was expected to appear for a bond hearing Monday morning, although court information was not immediately available.
