JOLIET, Ill. (WBBM) — Three Illinois Department of Transportation workers are recovering this afternoon after their vehicle was side swiped by a passing vehicle along I-80 this morning near Joliet.
According to Illinois Police around 1130 this morning the road workers were inside an IDOT truck parked on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of I-80 near Briggs Street when a motorists behind the wheel of an SUV hit the side of the truck.
Police say all three were taken to a hospital in Joliet with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV, who was not identified, was ticketed with various traffic violations. However police say she was not cited for texting or cell phone use.
Yesterday a road worker in Indiana was struck and killed by a passing motorists. Charges are pending against that driver.
