Alex Cosmidis of the Chicago White Sox has been named East Coast Scout of the Year.

Cosmidis, an amateur scout who covers North Carolina, will be honored tonight at the 26th annual Scout of the Year reception as part of Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings.

Cosmidis has been a major-league scout since 1982 and has worked for the White Sox since 1987.

Among the players signed by Cosmidis during his tenure are pitcher James Baldwin and second baseman Ray Durham with the Sox and pitchers Bryan Harvey and Roberto Hernandez with the California Angels.

All four players were eventual All-Stars.

Cosmidis was signed by the White Sox in 1950 out of Illinois Wesleyan University and was a .271 hitter over 11 minor-league seasons.

He also spent eight seasons as a minor-league manager from 1961-70.
