Architecture Race Has Designs on Chicago

Being the curators of a city renowned for its architectural treasures, Chicagoans, arguably, tend to take their participation in the built environment a bit more conscientiously then others.

On Saturday April 17, locals and tourists alike will have the opportunity to display their knowledge of architecture and test their navigational skills in the 1st Annual Amazing Architecture Race in Chicago.

The race will be the concluding activity of the Global Convention & Expo on Architecture taking place the same weekend at the Congress Plaza Hotel on South Michigan Avenue.

Teams of two will kick-off the event in Millennium Park and proceed on an urban adventure around the city which takes them to such points as Sears (Willis) Tower, Trump Tower, Aqua Tower, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, the Riverwalk, the lakefront and more.  The spotlight will be upon Chicago’s historical and contemporary works, public and private structures, and styles specific to the Windy City and the Midwest. These architectural styles may include but not be limited to: Prairie, Sullivanesque, Richardsonian Romanesque, Classical and Greek iterations, Chicago School, International, Colonial, Modern, Post-Modern, Bio-mimicry, Gothic, Brutalism and an assortment of ethnic designs.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to interact with Chicago’s world class streetscapes by completing a series of challenging activities and tasks.
