Barrington Student Killed by Metra Train

Barrington, Ill. – Graham Clark, a 17-year-old Barrington High School senior, was struck and killed by a Metra train in the northwest suburb during the morning rush Wednesday.

Just before 6 a.m., Clarke was struck by a Metra Union Pacific Northwest line train traveling from Harvard to Chicago between Hart Road and Route 59, according to a release from the Village of Barrington.

He was struck by UPN train No. 606, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Clarke was a senior at Barrington High School, the release said. Officials from School District 220 notified police that social workers and psychologists will be available for students and staff at Barrington High. In addition, Barrington Youth and Family Services is available for counseling services at (847) 381-0345.

The train left Crystal Lake at 5:36 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in downtown Chicago at 7:02 a.m., Miller said. Its run terminated at Barrington and passengers were picked up by other trains, according to a service advisory on Metra’s website.

Numerous Metra trains, most headed to Chicago, were either delayed or otherwise affected by the incident, according to the service advisory. A couple of inbound trains were filled to capacity and headed express to Chicago from the northwest suburbs. Outbound train No. 607, scheduled to depart Chicago at 7:13 a.m., was canceled.

The Barrington Police Major Crash Investigation Team is continuing the investigation.
