The Chicago Blackhawks continue to shake up their roster. The team has announced it will have a new goalie next season. The Blackhawks’ new goalie will be veteran Marty Turco. He’s spent his career with the Dallas Stars, but joins the Blackhawks on a one-year contract. In his 10 years in the NHL, Turco has played in three all star games but has yet to win a Stanley Cup.
Turco replaces Stanley Cup-winning goalie Antti Niemi, whose salary shot up in value after he helped the Blackhawks win their first championship in nearly 50 years. An arbitrator decided Niemi is worth more than $2 million for next season, which would have been expensive given the Blackhawks’ salary cap crunch.
Since the season ended, eight Blackhawks players have left the team, including Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd and Kris Versteeg.
