Blagojevich Lawyers Ask to Push Back Retrial

Lawyers for Rod Blagojevich say they’ll need more time to prepare for the former governor’s retrial. They’re due in federal court in Chicago Friday.

Attorneys for Blagojevich say in a filing made Friday they simply don’t have the time – or the manpower – to organize an adequate defense by January.

That’s when the retrial is supposed to kick off. But Blagojevich has burned through the $2.5 million campaign fund he was using to pay his legal team, and is now relying on a publicly-funded defense.

That means his old army of 15 lawyers has now dwindled down to three.

During his first trial, jurors couldn’t agree on 23 of the 24 corruption counts against the ex-governor.
