Borders and Sears Portrait Studio Join Katy’s to Support Military Families

A nationwide fundraising effort to support the families of fallen and disabled troops with children has been formed between Borders, Sears Portrait Studio, Katy’s LLC, and Operation Homefront.

Katy’s is contributing more than 50 percent of profits from the sale of Katy’s My OH Mega® energy cookies available at nearly 350 Borders locations across the country, via katyslist.org and Amazon.

Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that serves military families and wounded warriors, will use all of Katy’s contributions to build a bridging fund for the families of fallen and disabled troops with children.

Katy’s also has launched an interactive “Gratitude Map(TM)”, a place to upload a photo showing support at katyslist.org.

Sears Portrait Studios is helping by offering a free portrait to anyone wishing to upload a photo to the katyslist.org Gratitude Map(TM). Sears Portrait Studio is also providing a link from their site to katyslist.org to encourage people to participate.

“The money will be used to support families that have lost a head of household during military service,” said Jim Knotts, President and CEO of Operation Homefront.

“So many people recognize the sacrifices of our military families. The Gratitude Map is a great gift for these families and will carry a powerful message.”

Borders has contributed thousands of dollars toward the campaign and will track sales of the cookies at its stores nationwide beginning this week.

“It is important to have a community help families in need and the military is a family and the community is the United States,” Katy’s owner, Kathleen Frantz said.

“We are all touched by someone or something, because of war. We may or may not fully understand the toll it has back at home with the families that are left behind, but we are all touched at some level by the effects. We are on a mission to get at least one percent of the country to join The List and upload a photo to the Gratitude Map(TM).”

Frantz set out to create partnerships to support her idea more than a year ago.

She decided to partner with Operation Homefront because of their mission to provide emergency assistance and morale to our troops, to the families they leave behind and to wounded warriors when they return home, as well as their 501(c)(3) status.

Frantz said she was thrilled when Borders, Sears Portrait Studio and Operation Homefront accepted her invitation to participate in the nationwide campaign.
