CEO of Chicago Public Schools Ron Huberman Awarded Doctor of Humane Letters

CHICAGO (CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM) — The Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW) conferred a Doctor of Humane Letters on Ron Huberman at its Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 5, 2010.  Huberman, who holds a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, was honored for his public service to Chicago.

Huberman’s public service career began when he joined the Chicago Police Department as a patrol officer who attended night classes at the University of Chicago to complete master’s degrees in both Business and Social Service Administration.

He has headed a number of city departments and government agencies in the City as well as Mayor Daley’s Chief of Staff and his recent appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Public Schools.

“We see the influence of social work values and researched based interventions in Mr. Huberman’s  approach to the complex problems facing the Chicago Public Schools,” said Amy Eldridge, Dean/CEO of the Institute.

In his address to the nine graduates, and ICSW community, Mr. Huberman pointed out that while he has had many assignments for the City of Chicago, he was first a social worker. He emphasized the critical role that social workers play in Chicago’s public schools—they are on the front lines and influence the safety and well being of students so that they are able to learn and succeed.

The Institute for Clinical Social Work is the nation’s first and only free standing, fully accredited institution offering a Doctorate in Clinical Social Work.

The June 5 Commencement ceremony marked twenty years of graduating clinical scholars who  serve as educators, clinicians, researchers and administrators in Chicago and across the nation. The Ceremony was held at the Standard Club of Chicago.
