CHICAGO (STMW) — An Avondale neighborhood man has been charged with three felonies for allegedly fleeing the scene of a Near North Side accident after a three-car crash that left five people, including three pedestrians, injured, police said.
Michael McFaul is accused of driving Toyota convertible east on West Division Street that crashed into two cabs at North Clark Street about 4 a.m. Feb. 20, according to police. The convertible T-boned one of the cabs, causing it to slam into a pole, police said.
The convertible fled the scene after the crash, police said.
McFaul, 30, of the 3200 block of North California Avenue, was charged with three felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident, according to a police News Affairs statement.
Five ambulances were sent to the scene and “the victims were down on the street when [paramedics] got to the scene,” Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
Two people in the cab that struck the pole were initially taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. Two pedestrians were initially taken to Northwestern Hospital and one pedestrian was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center — all in serious to critical conditions with leg injuries, police and fire officials said.
McFaul is expected to appear in bond court later Wednesday, police said.
