A delegation from Chicago 2016 are in Pescara, Italy, to attend the Mediterranean Games, held June 24-July 5. The delegation includes Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan, Vice Chairman Mike Roberts, Senior Manager of International Relations Waleed Elgindy, United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Chief of International Relations Robert Fasulo, and USOC Director of International Cooperation and Policy Carolina Bayón.
“The Mediterranean Games offer countries from around the Mediterranean the opportunity to come together and compete in friendly competition and promote sport in the region,” Ryan said. “We share in the excitement of the Games and its ability to promote the ideals of international competition.”
The delegation will promote Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and their plan to deliver a spectacular Games experience in the heart of the city. The 2016 Host City will be selected by the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen, Denmark, in just less than 100 days from now.
The Mediterranean Games are held every four years with countries surrounding the Mediterranean. The Pescara Games will bring together over 4,000 athletes from 23 countries, competing in 28 Olympic and non-Olympic events.
