Chicago Cubs Option Right-Handed Pitcher Kevin Hart to Triple-A Iowa, Reinstate Left-Handed Pitcher Jason Waddell From DL

cubsThe Chicago Cubs have optioned right-handed pitcher Kevin Hart to Triple-A Iowa, effective following yesterday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. The Cubs will make a corresponding roster move prior to tomorrow’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

Additionally, the Cubs today reinstated left-handed pitcher Jason Waddell from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Hart, who made the start yesterday against Atlanta, is 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA (2 ER/10.2 IP) in five appearances (one start) for the Cubs this season. In his first-career big league start yesterday, he allowed one run on four hits and five walks in 5.0 innings, striking out three, in a 4-1 setback.

The 26-year-old Hart is 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA (18 ER/52.1 IP) in 22 games (six starts) with Iowa this season. Hart is 3-0 with a 1.41 ERA (5 ER/32.0 IP) in those six starts, striking out 32 batters and walking only 14 in 32.0 innings. Opponents recorded only a .157 batting average against Hart in those six starts.

Waddell posted no record and a 5.40 ERA (1 ER/1.2 IP) in three relief appearances for the Cubs this season. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (10 ER/16.2 IP) in 18 relief outings with Iowa.
