Chicago – A flash flood warning has been issued and will remain in effect through Tuesday morning.
A flash flood warning was issued for Cook, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Will and Lake counties at 5:58 a.m., according to an alert on the National Weather Service’s website. The warning will remain in effect until at least 11 a.m.
A flash flood warning means flooding is imminent or occurring, the weather service website said. People near creeks and streams should take immediate action to protect themselves and should not drive across flooded areas.
National Weather Service radar estimates between one and three inches of rain have fallen overnight from portions of Kendall County through Chicago’s south suburbs, the weather service said. Rainfall rates are expected to taper off after 7 a.m.
Viaduct flooding has also been reported in southern Cook County at South Archer Road and West 63rd Street, according to the weather service. Flash flooding was also reported in southwest suburban Romeoville near the intersection of Illinois Route 53 and Murphy Drive, with six to eight inches of rapidly moving water flowing over the roadway.
