The 52nd Annual Venetian Night is set for Saturday, July 25, with this year’s theme “Hollywood on the Lake”. The evening kicks off at 8:00 p.m. with the Chicago Fire Department’s Air/Sea Rescue Re-enactment. Following this, the boat parade will begin at 8:15 p.m. with the spectacular fireworks display synchronized to an array of classic theme music from your favorite movies at 9:00 p.m.
The air/sea rescue re-enactment will take place at the Queen’s Landing located at Congress and the Lakefront in Grant Park.
“Hollywood on the Lake” will be brought to life as boats will be decorated with lights and props as they sail along beautiful Lake Michigan, between the Shedd Aquarium at Roosevelt Road and the Chicago Yacht Club at Monroe Street.
People of all ages stake out spots along the lakefront as early as 9 a.m. to ensure a good view of the event. Taking public transportation, walking or biking to Venetian Night is encouraged.
This year there will be a new act joining the traditional happenings at Venetian Night. On Saturday, July 25 at 6 p.m. on Butler Field, motorcross superstar Ronnie Renner will go sky-high in an attempt to break his own Guinness World Record for the highest air ever attained on a motorcycle at Red Bull High Rise.
He will attempt to beat his previous record of 59 feet, 2 inches set in July, 2008 by launching onto a massive custom-built steel landing ramp measuring 64 feet wide and 30 feet tall.
Venetian Night is the longest running event that the City of Chicago produces, and was once a multiple day event that featured a beauty pageant and parade on State Street in addition to the lighted boat parade and fireworks show on the waterfront.
“Venetian Night is one of the most popular events the city produces,” said Megan McDonald, Executive Director with the Mayor’s Office of Special Events. “It’s a great way to showcase our beautiful lakefront and draws people of all ages.”
