ALTON, Ill. (AP) — An Alton police officer shot and killed a pit bull after the dog attacked him while he was arresting a suspect in a shooting.
Police had to pry the dog’s jaws off officer Jonathan Lukowski’s leg after the animal was killed.
Police say officers investigating a report of a shootout between two people at a home Tuesday returned to that residence Thursday to arrest a suspect.
Police were leaving that property when the pit bull bit into Lukowski’s thigh before clamping down on one of his ankles. Police then shot the dog four times.
Lukowski received 10 stitches on his thigh.
