A Chicago police supervisor found unconscious in his squad car died early Sunday, authorities said.

Around 12:10 a.m., the Chicago Police Department’s 5th District Supervisor James Lavoy, 50, was discovered unconscious in his vehicle on I-94 near the Stony Island feeder ramp on the city’s Far South Side, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Lavoy, of the 10200 block of South Harding Avenue in the city’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood, was taken to Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

There were no signs of trauma, according to police, who said he “may have suffered a cardiac event.”

An investigation remains ongoing.
