Cubs Face Winner-Take-All Game 5 vs. Nationals

The Chicago Cubs will take the field on Thursday with their season on the line as they take on the Washington Nationals in a winner-take-all Game 5 of the NLDS.

The Cubs had an opportunity to advance on Wednesday, but a strong pitching performance from Stephen Strasburg kept them from doing that as the Nationals secured a 5-0 win and a home game on Thursday night to determine which team will advance to the NLCS to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Cubs will send Kyle Hendricks to the hill, as he looks to duplicate his performance from Game 1 of the series. In that game, Hendricks outdueled Stephen Strasburg as he pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just two hits and no earned runs.

Here is how the Cubs will line up for the game:

Albert Almora rejoins the lineup, as he looks to build upon his incredible season of pounding left-handed pitching. Almora also hit a key RBI single in Game 3 of the series to help lift the Cubs over the Nationals at Wrigley Field.

Ben Zobrist will be out of the Cubs’ lineup to start the game, as will slugging outfielder Kyle Schwarber.

Here is Washington’s lineup for the game:

Meanwhile, the Nationals will send Gio Gonzalez to the mound, as he gave up three earned runs in five innings in the Nats’ Game 2 win in D.C. He’ll be backed up by sluggers Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman, who hit the key home runs in that game, and by Michael A. Taylor, who hit a grand slam to help lead the Nationals to their Game 4 win at Wrigley Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m., and will air on TBS.
