Daley won’t testify at developer’s bribery trial
CHICAGO (AP) — Mayor Richard Daley will not be called to testify in the trial of a millionaire developer who’s charged with allegedly bribing a Chicago alderman.
Robert Sanger is the defense attorney for developer Calvin Boender (BOON’-der). He said Monday that he won’t call Daley in Boender’s defense and probably will not call 10 Chicago aldermen, as he’d originally planned.
Also, an attorney for ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich said the former governor was subpoenaed as a defense witness but that the subpoena was withdrawn on Monday. Sanger declined to comment when asked about the subpoena.
Boender is charged with bribing former Alderman Isaac Carothers with $37,000 in home improvements in exchange for pushing through a zoning change for a 50-acre development.
