CHICAGO (STMW) — Heavy fog has blanketed the area and is expected to last throughout the rush hour, until almost noon.
A dense fog advisory for northern Illinois was issued at 2:37 a.m. Monday morning and will remain in effect until 11 a.m., according to National Weather Service meteorologist Nathan Marsili. Visibility will be lower away from Downtown Chicago, Marsili said.
The fog is suspected of causing one accident already in southwest suburban Wilmington. A woman crashed her car into a guardrail on an exit ramp on Interstate 55, according to ISP Joliet District Master Sgt. Martez Malone who said, “It’s very foggy in the area.’’ She was taken to an area hospital with “non-life threatening” injuries.
By the middle of the week, Chicago and the southwest suburbs are expected to reach high temperatures in the mid-50s, but in the northern suburbs high temperatures should only be in the mid-40s, Marsili said.
There will also be periods of rain beginning Tuesday and lasting until the end of the week and flooding may be expected, especially in the Rock River Basin, in northwestern Illinois, he said.
For Chicago, only 1-2 inches of rain are expected until Friday, though heavier rainfall is predicated for the north central part of the state.
