Flood Advisory Issued, Low Visibility Delays Flights

CHICAGO (STMW)  — The rain and low visibility are expected to remain in the Chicago area through Saturday — prompting a flood advisory and a warning to air travelers.

The National Weather Service said showers are “likely” Saturday, but new rainfall amounts are expected to be less than 1/10 of an inch. Wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour are possible, according to the weather service Web site.

The weather service issued a flood advisory for the Des Plaines River near Des Plaines and Riverside and the Fox River near Algonquin that will remain in effect until Sunday, when the rain is expected to stop.

The city’s Department of Aviation reported at 1 p.m. that some flights at O’Hare Airport are delayed one hour or more due to low visibility. Flights from O’Hare to the East Coast are delayed up to two hours because of weather conditions there, the department said.

No flight delays are reported at Midway International Airport, the department said.

Travelers are advised to check the status of their flights with their airlines.
