Glenwood man charged in 2008 killing

A Glenwood man captured in Missouri has been charged in a March 2008 Chicago killing.

Gregory Haynes, 27, of the 1100 block of West Iowa Street in Glenwood, was charged with first-degree murder Saturday night, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.

In March 2008, Haynes allegedly shot and killed 24-year-old Terrell Thomas several times in a home in the 7500 block of South Carpenter Street in Chicago. Police identified Haynes and obtained an arrest warrant but never were able to capture him, the release said.

Recently, Calumet Area detectives found out he was living in Hannibal, Mo., and they worked with Hannibal police, who arrested Haynes on Thursday. Haynes appeared in court to waive extradition, and Calumet Area detectives brought him back to Chicago, the release said.

Haynes appeared for a bond hearing Sunday.
