Hinsdale Looks to Advance to Little League World Series

Hinsdale’s Little League team will be looking to move onto Williamsport on Saturday afternoon as they take on Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores in the Great Lakes Regional Championship Game.

The winner of the contest will move onto the Little League World Series, where they will join 15 other teams from around the world as they compete for the title.

If Hinsdale, who is undefeated during regional play, is able to advance, they would become just the third Illinois team to make it to the Little League World Series since 2001, and only the fourth since 1990 to achieve that feat.

One of the teams, Jackie Robinson West, made it all the way to the championship game in 2014, but had their United States title stripped after it was ruled they had used ineligible players during their Cinderella run.

Hinsdale’s quest to get into that exclusive club of Illinois teams to make it to Williamsport is being led by pitcher Andres Waelter, who will take the mound in Saturday’s game. Waelter threw a perfect game in the state championship game on July 31, and he pitched earlier in regional play, helping Hinsdale to beat Kentucky.

The game will get started at 4 p.m., and will be aired on ESPN.
