HUGH O’BRIAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP SEMINAR TO BE HELD -JUNE 22-24 in Chicago, IL

Chicago, IL – The 2012 Illinois-North Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) seminar will take place June 22-24 in Chicago at Loyola University Chicago.  HOBY Illinois-North provides a program that gives high school sophomores an opportunity to interact with leaders in business, education, media, government, and volunteerism over the three day seminar.  Students have a chance to meet other young leaders from around the state and discuss many important topics that affect them.  This is the 35th year that HOBY has held a seminar in northern Illinois.  Five hundred and five high schools, both public and private from nineteen counties across northern Illinois, have been invited to send a student ambassador to represent their school.

The state seminar is planned entirely by local volunteers who believe in students’ ability to make a difference, including local adults who have been HOBY volunteers for over ten years.  The HOBY Illinois-North Leadership Seminar Planning Committee consists of civic-minded individuals who support the goals of Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership and give their time and talent throughout the year to make this life changing experience possible.  The professional backgrounds of the committee members are diverse, and many members are HOBY alumni.  As a result of their passion for HOBY, our planning committee and seminar staff give our ambassadors a unique opportunity to discover and develop their own passion for volunteering and community service.

Each Ambassador is challenged to return to his/her community and conduct at least 100 hours of community service in the year following the HOBY Leadership Seminar.
Ambassadors are asked to make a year-long commitment to strengthen their communities through volunteerism. Since the implementation of HOBY’s Leadership for Service program in 1998, participants have logged over 2.1 Million volunteer service hours. Through HOBY’s Leadership for Service programs, Ambassadors gain the tools, passion and commitment to serve others. To help young people realize the personal and social benefits of volunteerism and service.

HOBY helps students develop their leadership potential so that they can go back to their schools and communities to make a lasting, positive impact.  HOBY is an international program with seminars in all 50 states and in many countries around the world.  Students who attend HOBY seminars have the exclusive opportunity to become part of the HOBY alumni association, which gives them lifelong access to leadership opportunities, including increased eligibility for scholarships and internships.
