Illini Linebacker Kicked Off Team After Aggravated Battery Arrest

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois has kicked linebacker Evan Frierson (Fry’-er-son) off its football team two days after he was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.

Illinois football coach Ron Zook said Tuesday he removed Frierson from the roster after reviewing the circumstances surrounding his arrest early Sunday.

Champaign police say the 20-year-old Frierson was arrested after an argument and fight in the campus Green Street bar and restaurant district. Frierson is accused of punching two men, sending one to a local hospital.

Frierson was charged Monday but has not entered a plea. He did not respond to an e-mail request for comment from The Associated Press.

Frierson is a sophomore from Washington, D.C. He played in nine games this season.
