Chicago – Downtown street closures and extra CTA service will take effect when Lollapalooza hits its high notes and Bears Family Night passes the pigskin this weekend.
The CTA will provide extra service Friday through Sunday to help passengers get to and from both events, according to the CTA’s website.

On the Red Line, longer trains will operate every six minutes between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and then every eight to 10 minutes until midnight, the CTA said.
On Sunday, Red Line trains will operate every 7 ½ minutes between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., then every nine to 10 minutes until midnight, the CTA said.
Longer Blue Line trains will operate every 10 minutes between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., then every 12 to 15 minutes until midnight Friday through Sunday, according to the CTA website.
On the Brown, Green and Orange lines, longer trains will operate until 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Bears Family Night — where fans can see the football tam practice and participate in other activities — will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Soldier Field and conclude when the team’s 7 p.m. practice is over, according to the team’s website.
Lollapalooza runs from 11 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday in Grant Park, according to the music festival’s website.
The festival expects to draw more than 75,000 people per day, and will close Grant Park east of Michigan Avenue to the general public, according to a release from the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication.
Lollapalooza will also cause several weekend street and sidewalk closures near the park on portions of Balbo Avenue, Congress Parkway, Jackson Drive and Columbus Drive, but most streets will reopen by noon Monday, according to the release.
