Gurnee, Ill. – Early Tuesday morning, a 60-year-old north suburban man was shot in the head after he fell into a pond chasing a burglar suspect.

The man chased the burglar suspect and shoved him into a pond, falling in after him.

About 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Gurnee police received a call about the incident near the intersection of Campbell Drive and Leonard in the Heather Ridge area.

The incident began as a burglary to a motor vehicle in the 900 block of Campbell Drive. The 60-year-old resident heard a loud noise outside, opened his front door to investigate and saw a man running past, a release from Gurnee police said.

The resident chased the suspect, who stopped at the edge of a nearby pond, police said. The resident shoved the suspect into the pond but also fell in. The resident stood up, heard a loud pop and felt something hit him in the back of the head.

The suspect fled the area and the victim flagged down a Heather Ridge security officer patrolling the area. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where it was learned he had suffered a gunshot wound. The injury is not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The suspect is described as between 18 an 23, 5-foot-10 with a thin build, wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt.

I’m sure that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this really is awesome webpage. A good read. I will most certainly be back.
