A Springfield man was arrested Monday night after he allegedly sped away from officers when they tried to pull him over for going the wrong way on a one-way street.
James A. Dent, 26, of the 1600 block of East Cornell Avenue was taken to Sangamon County Jail following his arrest, which happened about 10:20 p.m.
Police said Dent was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala on 25th Street approaching Sherwood, when he saw a patrol car and allegedly accelerated quickly and turned into the subdivision going the wrong direction. He pulled into a driveway in the 2600 block of Sherwood, jumped out of the car and took off running, police said.
An officer caught up with Dent and arrested him. He was issued four tickets — two for driving the wrong way on one-way streets, one for reckless driving and one for driving on a revoked license. He also was arrested for resisting arrest and trespassing in subdivision, from which he is banned, police said.
