Horrifying video footage of the physical abuse of a disabled girl has led to the arrest of a West Englewood woman. That video was captured by the victim’s own mother.
Police say that 56-year-old Akemi Johnson was arrested and charged with a felony count of criminal abuse or neglect after the victim’s mother went to them with video footage of the alleged attack. The victim, a 13-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, was reportedly beaten and had her hair pulled.
According to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, the alleged abuse took place on March 28 at West 47th Street’s 3800 block. The victim was not hospitalized following the incident.
Johnson appeared in bond court on Saturday, but additional details about her case were not immediately accessible.
