Naperville Police Dept. opens online reporting service

The Naperville Police Department has opened a new service that allows members of the community to file police reports via the Internet.

Starting today, residents of the suburb of Naperville, about 30 miles west of Chicago, can submit several non-emergency police reports 24 hours a day through their police department’s website. The accepted reports include nuisance complaints, criminal damage or theft of property under $300, lost property, littering, and civil matters of record.

Residents who submit a report through the system will receive an email confirmation and a report identification number. All reports will be manually reviewed by police within five days of their submission.

Naperville police officials hope the new electronic filing service will improve the ease of contacting the department and will allow officers on patrol to dedicate their resources to emergency calls.

“We are very excited to offer unprecedented access to the Naperville Police Department,” said David Dial, the chief of the Naperville police. “Online reporting is an instrument that supports the Naperville Police Department’s mission of providing professional, high quality and effective police service in partnership with the community.”

Residents in emergency situations are still advised to call 911.
