Attorneys for Rod Blagojevich have yet to figure out exactly who will be representing the former Illinois governor in his next trial.
Judge James Zagel says Blagojevich can have only two attorneys if he takes public defenders. But Blagojevich attorney Sheldon Sorosky says it’s still unclear who from the current team will stay on for a second trial.
SOROSKY: The issue is, we all, many of the lawyers in this case have other defendants in custody and other judges screaming and yelling at us. We have to try those cases and those are legitimate factors plus clients who are saying, why aren’t you trying our case?
The second trial is expected to start at the beginning of January and last 10 or 11 weeks. Zagel says, once again, he plans to keep jurors names secret. In the first trial, Zagel released the names shortly after the verdict and reporters tracked down jurors at their homes that night. This time, Zagel says he’s going to wait until 24 hours after the verdict to release the names. He didn’t really explain that decision except to say that it was based on the experiences of some of the jurors.
