Workers at the Cook County Department of Environmental Control have a new boss. This week, Deborah Stone joined the department as its new director. County representatives say Stone will serve as the “eyes, ears, and nose” for the Environmental Protection Agency at the state and federal levels.
Most recently working with the state’s Department of Natural Resources, Stone says her new position will allow her to work with local communities to collectively identify and address environmental matters. Additionally, Stone will be involved in monitoring the quality of the water and air, as well as providing solutions for making the county greener.
The $1.7 million Department of Environmental Control employs 28 people and is responsible for improving and protecting the environment to foster the well being, comfort, and convenience of Cook County residents. Stone’s position pays $110,000 per year.
