No Endorsement From Daley

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he will not make an endorsement in next year’s election to replace him.

Mayor Daley knows there are a lot of people who want his job.

DALEY: I think there will be a lot of candidates. There will be a lot of candidates. Look at city council. All 50 [aldermen] are candidates right now.

Not quite. But a handful of aldermen say they’re seriously considering a campaign, and a few more aren’t ruling it out.

DALEY: This is the best job in America. Right here. The best job in America is right here.

But no one eying that big City Hall office should expect the mayor’s endorsement.

DALEY: They can be the people of the city of Chicago make that decision. It won’t be Rich Daley to make that decision.

Asked what he’s going to do after he leaves, Daley said he didn’t know. His retirement begins on May 16th of next year.
