A massive manhunt is underway for a man who shot a Harvey Police Officer while the officer was responding to a report of a robbery in progress.

Police received a call of a robbery in progress just before 6 p.m. at a business located at 159th and Wood Streets, police said. As officers arrived, an armed man began shooting, striking an officer, according to a release form Harvey Police.

The officer was transported in stable condition to Ingalls Hospital and officials said his injuries were not life threatening.

The Harvey Police Department, Illinois State Police and Cook County Sheriffs, along with several other local law enforcement agencies, were searching for the shooter Sunday night.

Harvey Mayor Eric Kellogg pledged and ordered the Harvey Police Department to “utilize all available resources to ensure that the suspect responsible is captured and brought to justice,” according to police spokesperson Sandra Alvarado.

“Mayor Kellogg and the department’s prayers are with the officer and his family at this time and we wish to thank every single officer who has been assisting the department with this manhunt,” the release read.
