Chicago – There is still time for the race for Chicago mayor to take shape, but there are two aldermen who are looking at possible campaigns.
North Side Alderman Scott Waguespack (32nd) is giving the race a look, saying he’s interested regardless of whether Mayor Daley runs for reelection.
He’s expected to announce his intentions, one way or the other, within three weeks.
Near West Side Alderman Bob Fioretti (2nd) is also looking into a run for mayor. He said since January, he’s visited all 50 Chicago wards, sometimes driving more than 100 miles a day, to take the pulse of voters in every neighborhood.
He said he will take some time before deciding.
“I think at the end of September is a fair amount of time, because you have to look at raising money, raising the issues, who knows what the mayor’s going to do. He’s been holding it close to his vest on what he’s going to do yet,” Fioretti said.
Daley has not yet said publicly whether he will seek a seventh term.
This December, he will surpass his father’s record and become the longest-serving chief executive in Chicago history.
