An expensive nightmare is over for the brother of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
Prosecutors have dropped the charges against the governor’s brother Robert, which means he won’t be retried.
BLAGOJEVICH: We were not expecting them to dismiss the charges, no, absolutely not, not at this point. I mean, expected that they should have, believed that they should have but didn’t expect that they would.
Robert Blagojevich says he’s happy to have his freedom back and get on with his life. He says the first thing is to take stock of his financial situation because the trial wasn’t cheap.
BLAGOJEVICH: Close to a million dollars. I could not have had a better legal team, but the only reason that I had the good legal team that I had is because I could afford them.
Blagojevich plans to get back to Nashville where he lives and resume his real estate business. While Robert is in the clear, prosecutors are still planning to retry the former governor.
BLAGOJEVICH: I do plan to come up here as I can to be there to support my brother.
The new trial is set for the first week of January.
