Roommates accused of fighting

Two roommates were arrested Sunday after they fought with each other because each refused to go buy drugs for the day, police said.

Arrested were Fred H. Rutherford, 66, and Brett A. McElmurray, 54, both of whom live in the 2800 block of Ridge Avenue.

Police were called about 5:45 p.m. and found potting soil spilled all over the living room furniture and carpet, as well as broken glass and kitchen cooking utensils scattered everywhere.

Both men told police they had been pushing and shoving each other because neither one would leave to go buy drugs for the day. McElmurray had a bloody nose and a small cut on his right hand.
Rutherford said he was punched and shoved and that McElmurray had ripped the phone out of the wall.
