Search for Man That Caused Explosion

Wheaton, Ill. – Police are looking for a young man in connection with an explosive chemical device that was found outside a home in west suburban Wheaton Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening, a young man rang the doorbell to a home in the 1600 block of Hunters Glen Drive. The resident there did not answer because he did not recognize the man, who later fled on foot after, according to a Wheaton Police release.

Moments later, the resident heard a loud bang that sounded like a large firecracker outside his door. When he went to check, he found remains of a plastic soda bottle and pieces of aluminum foil.

The suspect is described as a man in his late teens to early 20s, who is tall and thin, the release said.

Anyone with information should call Detective Commander James Volpe at (630) 260-2055.
