Sky Hire Storey as Assistant Coach

The Chicago Sky have named former NBA player and Windy City high school hoops legend Awvee Storey to the team’s coaching staff.

Storey, who grew up in the Chicago area and played high school basketball at Proviso West, recently spent five years in the front office of the Washington Mystics. He will serve as an assistant coach under Sky head coach Amber Stocks.

“I was born and raised here, so to have this opportunity with the Chicago Sky and to be able to come back home, be with family, and do what I love to do is something that is hard to put into words,” Storey said in a statement.

The new coach played for three different NBA teams, including stints with the Nets and Wizards. He also played basketball overseas in several countries, including New Zealand and China, before coming back to the States and beginning his front office career with the Mystics.

With the Sky rebuilding their team, Storey is looking forward to the opportunity to shape the future for the club.

“The love of basketball and the fanbase here, there’s nothing like it,” he said. “Knowing the level of talent that is already on this team while heading into the WNBA Draft with the third and fourth picks, I couldn’t be more confident and just can’t wait to get started.”

The Sky will kick off their season at the new Wintrust Arena later this year.
