Snow melt and rain runoff prompts river flood warnings, advisories

A flood warning has been issued for the Des Plaines River near Des Plaines and the Fox River at Algonquin, meteorologist Andy Boxell said.

The Des Plaines River near Riverside has reached about 6 feet Sunday night and is expected to continue to rise due to the snow melt and rain runoff, Boxell said.

A flood advisory –which is less urgent than a flood warning– is also in affect for the Des Plaines River at Riverside, the Fox River at Montgomery and Dayton, the Iroquois River at Rensselaer and Foresman, the Kankakee River at Wilmington and the Rock River at Rockton.

Minor flooding is expected to continue through the week, according to the advisory.
