Statement from Governor’s Office Regarding Suspension of the Meritorious Good Time Release Program

Recent media accounts have inaccurately suggested the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) was secretly conducting aspects of its “Meritorious Good Time” Release program, which Gov. Quinn suspended while that program undergoes a comprehensive review.

For the record:

The “Meritorious Good Time” Release program and its related policies have never been conducted in secret. In fact, IDOC Director Michael Randle spoke in-depth about the program with the press earlier this year, including during an editorial board meeting with the State Journal-Register.

This article is an Oct. 11, 2009 editorial from that newspaper under the headline: “New Corrections Chief Embraces Reforms.”

The Governor ordered the suspension of the program because some questions about the program have been raised and it is in the public’s interest to do a comprehensive review.

Under Illinois law, the Department of Corrections can issue credit for meritorious good time served.

Governor Quinn has repeatedly stated his mandate to IDOC is the public’s safety always comes first.

taxpayer’s complain about paying higher taxes because our prisons are overfull! Does this not show that crime does not stop even when the convicted are already locked-up. Let the non-volient offenders return home on bracelets. Give the responisability to them to there families and save some MONEY!!!!

  10. Tonia says:

Well, deeper in the hole Illinois goes and, yet again another politican that does not keep his word. Big Suprise!!! Everyone knows that news is what started all of this, yet taxpayer’s complain about the so-called increase in crime and then complain about paying higher taxes because are prisons are up to 48,000 almost to completely full! Does this not show that crime does not stop even when the convicted are already locked-up. Let the non-volient offenders return home on bracelets. Give the responisability to them to there families and save some MONEY!!!!

    • Kim Adkins says:

  11. cara says:

My son has been in idoc since 2007 he got 8 years instead of the deal his lawyer said he would get because 3 officers in the knox county jail after my son seen the judge a women was taking him back to his cell and the 3 officers came up to them and said they would take him why not sure but found out that they took him to a room with no cameras in it and wanted him to strip my question is why do you need to strip when you where already booked and just went to see the judge well anyways he ended up hurting one of the officers while defending himself and he got 8 years well in my opionin the officers are just as much as a criminal as they call my son for what they did but like always the system is always right (not) well they made the deal that he would get good time now you take it away but you let the old governor out to visit his wife well no other inmate gets privilages like that so why not give the good time back like you said in your election.

  12. ms. Jackson says:

We should have never voted him in cause he is crooked why u think he hurried up and got rod out so he can do his dirt he need to hurry up an bring good time back and quit being on bullshit

  13. MONICA says:

Quinn just signed into law to have the death penalty abolished in IL and he still hasn’t reinstated the good time. So prisons are going to be super crowded now. For all the non-violent offenders, they should release them. Hell they are going to have to do something soon because there won’t be anywhere to house all of the offenders. I pray every night my husband comes home in July.

    • Melissa Serrano says:

My significant other should have been home November 2011. I know where you’re coming from. Non-violent offenders need something to look forward too and so do their loved ones. This stinks! If Quinn isn’t going to do anything about it, then he needs to lay off taxes and quit complaining about the debt of Illinois! Please Please Please bring back the good time!

      • verona says:

my husband was offerd 2 years by the state if he pleaded guilty, he did . but he didnt take the 2 years due to the judge told him to check into probation , and he was told he can get it but at time of court judge didnt even give it to him and gave him 3 years for a dui, he didnt hurt any one or was he speeding only reason he got pulled over was he didnt have front plate on truck.he is a good man works hard pays child suport,,like any other he drank on the weekends has had 1 appeal and she denide it, now waiting for springfields appeal.and from the sounds of it he wont get that one either, from what the public defender said and let me add public defenders dont do anything for ya .some people dont have the money for a lawyer anyway at time of court they tell them with good time you will be out at this date there are people that are in for far much worse crimes and get out sooner.and then dont how is this helping him ? we just got married in aug last year and he has been in since december of last year i need my husband home with me.,please bring back the good time ,he is only getting more in det with the child suport, his job is still waiting for him as long as its not to much longer,

        • verona says:

im sure there is judges, lawyers, governors that go to dinners or what ever and drink and then get behind a wheel what makes that any better, they wouldent wanna be put in a hard prison for that, and for so long,

  14. TRACY says:

MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN IDOC SINCE OCTOBER OF 2010 AND HE DONT GET RELEASED UNTIL OCTOBER 2012 UNLESS THE GOOD TIME COMES BACK PLEASE BRING IT BACK

    • ani says:

      • verona says:

yeah he signed no good time! isnt that a crock. but they arent telling the inmates that so they can use that for bate to be good,

    • Kayla says:

My boyfriend has been locked up since December of 2009, n his out date is September 2012. PLEASEEEE BRING BACK THE GOOD TIME SO HE CAN COME HOME SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. MILIANA says:

OMG BRING GOOD TIME BACK PLEASE!! MY COUSINS HUSBAND HAS BEEN IN THERE SINCE DECEMBER 2011 HIS FAMILY NEEDS HIM PLEASE CREDIT GOOD BEHAVIOR PATT QUINN

  16. E.M.A says:

My husband has been in the idoc program for almost 3 months and was givin 6 months hoping good time wouldof came back so he would only do the 61 days we been praying that Patt Quinn will bring good time back.. he complains that we dont have money but then again keeping the inmates in there doesnt save any money.inmates are sleeping on the floor, sleeping in basements is that even allowed? jails are getting way to packed!! my husband has a job and a wonderful family and daughter waiting for him to come home. i understand not letting the offenders that come out and in all the time but it should be different for first time offenders.Patt Quinn was elected to do the right thing SERVE THE PEOPLE AND SAVE MONEY! Maybe we wouldnt have to have high gas prices if we would save millions of dollars and bringing back good time !! At least give the ones credit for having good behavior what is taking so long!!??Why keep the good behavior ones in there but before it was ok to let the bad ones out right away with out serving the 61 days get real and do the right thing put your self in our shoes! do the right thing listen to the people bring back good time! your worried about othere things like sex marriage how is that saving us money..im all for it but that wasnt important to do thats not saving money that waste of time you need to be worrying about serving your people and making us happy.. So many people heard you at Cocos resturant do what you were elected for like many have already said!!BRING BACK GOOD TIME !!

  17. Monica says:

My Brother inlaw is locked up and my husband is a testament that when you have been in that situation you can be more then what society gives these men credit for! Not everyone is privlaged to not have this experience. I know on the back end how this impacts families and how they are equally punished which is not fair! NOt to mention wasted tax dollers that our governor is cryin that we do not have to waste! It Cost the state money to keep them there Isnt
Time = Money? Governor Quinn I heard you speak in your campaign at Coco Restaurant in Humboldt Park!Back in November do what you were elected to “Serve the People” & Save Money!

  18. ember says:

my older brother was lockd up in november has 3 children and was recently married just found out he has diabetes and has multiple help problems on top of it if the bill for good time isnt passsed we all know very well it will be brought up again and again so many families and in udder chaos waiting for the bill to be passed they do serve their time as long as they are not getting into anymore trouble while lockd up then there should be no reason not to let them out plain and simple!!!!!!

  19. Carmen Montanez says:

My son has been in the IDOC since Dec 7, 2011. And is hoping and praying the the GOOD TIME is reinstated! My son has a job and they like him so much his boss is holding his position until he returns. My son has a wife and a 11mth old daughter that need them him back home and most importantly working. I was hope Mr. Quinn would do something for the prisoners that do have jobs to return to or school…. he should try at least to help the prisoners that have reponsiblity and are under eletronical monitioring system. PLEASE help there are prisoners that should recieve the Good time back !!!!!

  20. JAV says:

MY BOYFRIEND WAS TOLD MGT WAS SUPPOSTED TO BE BACK IN JAN. AND NOW ITS NOT ARE SON MISSED HIS DADA EVERYDAY N FROM WHAT I HEARD ON THE NEWS GOV. PAT QUINN WAS GONNA BRING IT BACK I HAVE TRYED TO CONTACT HIM BY E-MAIL AND PHONE BUT I GET NOTHING BACK WHAT TYPE OF GOV IS THAT

    • Christy Sommers says:

I know what you mean, I also conttacted Gov. Quinn by e-mail and followed up with a call. I was told by one of his assistance “Phil” that Quinn never conducts personal audiences or any kind of personal comunications. I guess ifmit does not promote or benefit the Gov. he is not interested in the people of ILL.

    • ms green says:

Quinn promised the inmates good time, is it gonna take us the people as a whole, not a voice here or voice there, enough of us so that someone has no choice but to at least hear us. my boyfriend’s lawyer had also told us the good time would be coming back, but that’s the last ive heard. idoc has no word of it. if we cant fight to bring it back at least we can do is make damn sure he knows next election time his ass is out because of it.

  21. amberban says:

i have at least four people in my family that are sitting in prison for driving on suspended lincense sitting in for more then two years seems like it should be a crime they all have family two have small business our world is broke and little people try to live not on the state but for them selfs are being stuffed away for too long over small stuff bring good time back let family take care of their family! this is bs!!!!!!

  22. Believing in favor says:

I have a loved one who is in there as well and pray daily God will touch Gov. Quinn & he’ll bring back goodtime so my guy can come home soon because what he is in for isn’t a major crime and six months locked up is long enough. So I pray God works this out in all our favor.

  23. Believing in favor says:

I have a loved one who is in there as well and pray daily God will touch Gov. Quinn & he’ll bring back goodtime so my guy can come home soon because what he is in for isn’t a major crime and six months locked up is long enough. So I pray God works this out in all our favor.

  24. RT says:

I voted for Quinn for the simple fact he stated he will bring Good Time back… Nothing has been done as of yet!!! These poor men are being told its coming back just to keep them on their toes… LIES OF THE DEVIL!!! I want my vote back!!!

    • kirsten says:

The joker never got my vote! My husband was supposed to be home yesterday and I am irate!

  25. Nice websiteI know you listed your favorites here and it sounds like Costanoa is one possibility butare there other mixed-use type facilities that you know of that would allow for a large group (say 50 or so?) to have the choice of either camping OR staying in a room (doesnt have to be luxurious) and also dining facilities for a planned dinner? I could even get it cateredmore important is beautiful venue and choice for guests to rough it or sleep with walls.

    • Gabriella says:

      lol…wtf??

    • brandi says:

Illinois is such a joke!! IF u have a loved one in prison, you might as well figure they will do their whole bit…my brother is in pinckneyville a sgt told him the only way he could possibly get out any sooner is to contact thejudge and his lawyer and see if they cant help him get a sentence reduction….im waiting to hear back from them so hopefully they can help out…it’s worth a try….

      • stephanie says:

i know how u feel my husband is in pinckneyville and they only reason i voted for this man is to reinstate goodtime bc im a single mom holding it down while my husband is locked up hopefully theyll reinstate it :( we all need to petition!!!!! sincerely stephanie

  26. Wat the hell says:

I am right along with the rest of you but we can holler all night and bitch everyday but idoc will not move unless quinn say so.but everybody should know that God is the masther of everything just keep praying he hasn’t forgotten the prayers that comes to him, the non-violent inmates.the state is so fast convicting and slow releasing them.

  27. cheap juciy says:

I’ve wanted to publish something like th is on a person of my blogs and th is has given me an notion. Cheers.

  28. Cate says:

My fiance is in county jail waiting for a hearing. He was charged with aggravated battery while he was on parole. He was threatened by three men, smacked one of them to get away, and there was no injuries. The victim refused medical attention. He has a private attorney, and the states attorney agreed to sentence him to the remainder of his parole as a plea which would have been september of 2012, cut in half, 2011. Now the states attorney is taking that back and saying that he is getting 4 years… how is that a plea if he would get that anyway if found guilty by a jury. Good time credit is gone and it is rediculous… We were planning a wedding, have our own business and bought a house recently. This state and the county I live in is all about who you are and how much money you have….Does anyone have a reliable website regarding good time credit??

  29. Ex-Con 8 Times Over says:

Look people i have done 8 prison sentences and i just came home a few months ago in the fall of 2010 and there is no sign of anyone getting there 6 months good-time . Nobody is getting out on time so please stop passing around false hope to grieving family member’s that are waiting for there loved ones to come home on time because it just isn’t happening right now . The prison system’s are flooded right now along with the County Lock up’s as well . There is no room to house any of these Illinois prisoner’s but yet they still keep bringing them into Stateville central Intake . I hate to burst everyone’s bubble but Governor Quinn is not holding true to his word and is not letting any Illinois prisoner out on time so we need a miracle if anyone is looking for there loved one’s to come home for the Holidays this year , I should know , I just left Mt. Sterling Prison November 3, 2010 and i live in Naperville , IL. So good luck people !!! There IS NO GOOD-TIME FOR ANY AND ALL ILLINOIS PRISONERS AS OF NOV 3, 2010 I JUST LEFT MT. STERLING PRISON AND NO GOOD – TIME IS BEING AWARDED TO ANYONE , I HAD TO DO MY FULL TERM OF 4 YEAR’S . ALL I GOT WAS DAY FOR DAY CREDIT OFF MY SENTENCE “THAT WAS IT ” SO STOP BELIEVING OTHERWISE FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT !!!

    • MS HOME ALONE says:

Thanks 8times excon for the info. I will let my fiance know that there is no early good time coming anytime soon. lonely at heart.

    • waiting on my husband says:

just got off the phone with my husband, who is in(il river c&c)he seems to think that come sometime in january the goodtime laws are going to be signed off on and be put back into effect???he said obviously theres all different talk in there, but he said this part came from springfield??said it may not be the 6mons on the good time, but could be atleast 3months on the books?????SO IM STILL HOLDING ONTO HOPE,AND PRAYING….HOWEVER…THANX FOR THE WORDS 8TIMES FOR THE INFO,

    • carrie says:

I know the feeling my boyfriend has been in since 12/07. The inmates shouldnt suffer because gov Quinn screwed up. He released the wrong status inmates and now the current inmates are suffering. That is so unfair in alot of ways. Thompson Correctionsal center isnt even opened but is there. Country jails and regular prisions are over populated. At stateville there are 4 inmates per cell because there are too many inmates. They are refusing buss loads of inmates from country because they dont have the room for the inmates.

    • i hate illinois says:

Excon8 and urbody else who can’t spell,

Pat Quin has absolutly no regard for Il. State prisioners in fact he has been quoted as saying so. So don’t hold hold your breath on this just encourage your loved ones to stay strong and be thankfull they still recive day for day which I would much rather have.

      Stay out of trouble
      Don’t do the crime if………..

      • watever says:

i hate illinois u obviously have never had family or been 2 prison urself! yeah if u do the crime u should have to the time BUT only if the punishment fits!! My husband is in prison for a petty crime and the time he was given was ridiculous and undeserving!! Families r punished with the criminal btw!!!So if u don’t have anything nice 2 say…..

  30. MS. NOLOVE says:

I heard that they are supposed to let 1,200 inmates out on Dec. 15,2010, SO to those who love ones are up for goodtime, let just pray that we see them for CHRISTMAS, Because the goodtime be here for over 20yrs, and now they are trying to take it from us. The judisial system really suck,we voted for Quinn, Now he got to keep his promise and let them MEN & WOMEN come home, they paid for their’s crime….. A woman who want her fiance back home with his family….

    • Gabriella says:

Ms. Nolove..where are you getting your information? Im just curious so i know where to look for updates on all this stuff.

      • MS NOLOVE says:

I was told by my friend that they was doing it, so I google it & ask a update on it. So all I can do is pray that what she told me is true & wait and see whatv happen. PRAY GOD IS BY OURS SIDE THROUGH IT ALL.

    • concerned says:

Ms. nolove, wher are you getting your information? My fiance got sentenced 2 years. so a year automatically. which puts him @ august 2011. if the 6 months comes back he will be out in February. he is also in school. so that will give him 45 days goodtime also. i just want to kno when i can expect him home. cuz it could be anywhere from december to august depending on goodtime!

    • Stacey says:

I would be interested to know where Ms. Nolove is getting her information as well. I have searched all over this internet over the last few days and can’t find a thing. My son was supposed to get out on 11/22/10 but we haven’t heard anything.

He was a first-time non-violent offender and has been incarcerated for over a year on a 4 year sentence @ SWICC.

Hoping to at least have him home by Christmas.

    • ladymcbride says:

where did u get your info from?

    • dianna gates says:

i am a tax payer also have a family member in here made sure i voted for quinn so my member can have a better chance at life its not fair they r getting punish because u guys r not u dating the system they deserve a fair opporunity the prisons are getting over crowded they are cutting back on the school system put them on house arrest i looked up my family member cost 43,000 we can put that towards education quinn please reconsider

    • dianna gates says:

where did u get this info from about release of 1200 inmates

  31. LuckyCharm says:

My boyfriend is currently in (DOC) and has been there since May of this year he went for aggervated DUI and driveing on revoke but at the same time he never got in a accident or did anyone get hurt and he got 3 years he tells me that the good time is suppose to come back.

  32. Melissa says:

I have a question for anyone who knows…… My husband just got 2 yrs for traffic bullsh*T this month..hes hearing he supposed to do only one year and with good time only 6months. If he doesnt get the 6 months good time does he still only have to do one year or is the one year knocked off consitered good time also??

    • priscilla hash says:

With good time its half and half. So he got 2 years, half is gone. Without the good time, he would have to do the entire year. With good time, 6 months. So clearly you need the good time reinstated. The governor, I hear, is suppose to have a sit down today Nov 15 to figure out the overcrowding situation in ALL illinois prisons. People are doubled up, tripled up, and some sleep on the floor. If the governor doesnt fix the overcrowding, the feds will step in on Illinois. Looks like there’s no other choice than to reinstate the good time. Be an activist, and find out when this good time is going to take effect

  33. Theresa Plemons says:

My BOyfrend got sentence to 18 months in prison for a DUI and driving on revoked. He was supose to get out on October 30 if good time was in effect and now he is missing his sons birth which he would have been home for. My due date is November 30th. he would have spent the last month of myt pregnancy with me. but now he is set to be releasesd on april 30 2011 and now not only does he miss his sons birth but he misses the first 3 months of his life now. Please bring back good time soon. I really wasn my honey to be home for his son. he’s in there for a petty traffic violation he’s not a criminal. you are just waisting tax payers money by having him in there and you have locked up a working citizen for a petty crime. the judisial system SUCKS. Taught prison was for keeping people who endanger others off the streets.

    • Todd says:

My best friend was arrested for a robbery, that had been duplicated EXACTLY the same way 2 years prior by another individual. I won’t mention his name, don’t want any trouble! =) Anyway, the previous guy received 6 months probation, my friend received 4 years in prison. Like someone else posted, we had a public defender who did nothing… a joke. The good time needs to come back! People are being treated unfairly, the prisons are over-flowing, the state’s broke, and polititions are sitting around collecting FAT paychecks, with large raises that they themselves voted for! Illinois is so freakin corrupt, it’s sickening… it’s getting to be embarrassing to even admit being from this state! Godd luck to all of you!

    • Carol says:

Teresa, My son also was sentenced for his DUI on a revoke and received 6 months. It was the best thing for him. He is lucky he never killed anyone and he realizes this. This 6 months has been a real eye opener for him. With your BF having to spend time behind bars maybe he will also realize he does have a future ahead of him without the drinking and driving. He will be able to hopefully spend a lifetime with his son now. Just reverse the situation and what if a drunk driver hit your car and killed your son. How would you react then. I hated that my son has to spend this time behind bars but he will be a better person cause of it.

  34. Lizabeth says:

My fiance got 3 1/2 years on October 12th 2010. Right now his projected parol date is 7/10/12! We have a 4 month old son together and his crimes were non violent!! The good time NEEDS to come back!!!! Does anyone know if or when the good time will come bak and howmuch time it will take off the sentence SOME ONE PLEASE HELP! ! our son neeeds his father!!

    • priscilla says:

It’s half and half. I’ve commented above. Rumor has it that there is a sit down today to fix the overcrowding, and good time could be reinstated as early as Nov 22. I hope so…

  35. Concerned Person. says:

Please Does anyone have any solid information about the meritorious good time credits??

I really want to know if my husband will have a chance to be released early. They need to bring the meritorious good time credit back. Some people Deserve a second chance. Pat Quinn I voted for him so he better do the right thing

    • MS. NOLOVE says:

to; concerned person, From my understand they are sitting down at the table this week to talk about the early release program, so hopefully we should here something by the end of the month, just keep prayin & keep the faith in GOD, he wont let us down, GOD IS GOOD all the time.. My fiance supposed to been home in OCT. Just dont give up & stay strong for ur hubsand & family..

    • sick of broken promises says:

I am fed up with all the broken promises about bringing back the meritorious good time. We (all of us who have a love one in prison) should picket in front of Quinns office. I am looking into getting a permit for a peaceful picket. If I can make this happens, Please respond to me that you are interested. Thank you!

  36. Mary says:

I am so sick and tired of all the bs the government is putting families through! My husband smoked pot while on probation he is serving 9 mnths for it! While i know what he did was wrong i don’t think he should have to serve 9 months! We have 4 kids who need thier dad! Plus both his parents are sick with cancer! They both only have a few months left and the judge just rolled his eyes when asked to give my husband a chance to spend more time with his parents! The judge could have suspended his sentence but its election year and so he sent him to prison!Illinois is so corrupt i hate it here!!!!!!!!!!

    • Karen says:

I agree. Illinois is the most corrupt state and I can’t wait until my daughter finishes high school because she will go to college and I can move from here (even if it is just over the border)! Every other state is doing either the electronic bracelet or early release on non-violent offenders but not Illinois we want to keep them in the system rather than find ways to help their families and release them early! This state is by far the WORST and I don’t even like to say I am from Illinois!!!

      • Concerned Person. says:

I Totally Agree. They Need to bring it back. I was just reading on the net that they really never took it away. I just want to know is it in affect or not thats all i want to know. I cant seem to get any solid information. My Husband seems to think that he will get the good time regardless. Is this True?

      • Mary says:

If our govener would get off his ass and do something we would have our loved ones home!! F*ck this state! When my husband gets out of prison and off parole im moving out of this nightmare state! BTW most states have medical marijuana and its not hard 2 get. My nephew gets it in the state he lives in and there is nothing wrong with him!! So Illinois get over urselves and bring the good time back!!

    • MS. NOLOVE says:

HI Mary, I guess we are in the same situation, my fiance got 2yrs, supposed to got out in Oct, so we waitin on the goodtime to come back I heard they are sitting at the table now as of this week, So pray we here something by the end of the month. Hope your & mines will have a nice CHRISTMAS.. MS. NOLOVE

    • brandi says:

my brother is doing 18 months for smoking weed while he was on probation…WOW what a crime, but we all know how this government works…..

      • Mary says:

I don’t understand this DAMN state! The town that i’m from some girl got busted in the process of MANUFACTURING meth and she got 45 DAYS in county jail, 45 days!!! My husband smokes a little pot (which is legal for medical in most states)and he has to spend 8 months in PRISON!! WTF!!! How fair is that? What i want to know is when is our pussy govener Pat Quinn is gonna do his job and make something happen for the ppl in our overcrowded prisons?? He isnt just punishing the prisoners he is punishing thier families also!!! Then again why should he care it isnt him or his family!! You better believe if it were shit would change real quick and in a hurry!!

    • mary says:

Here’s an update my mother in law passed away. Its sad because she asked for my husband till the day she died! If our stupid governor would have brought back good time he would have been home. I hate this Damn state more than ever! My husband will be home in a month and it will be just in time to watch his father die! BRING BACK GOOD TIME!!! I hope no one else will have to go thru this!

  37. Monique Bridges says:

To whom it may concern does anyone really read this. If you have one felony you get harassased and beat up but the Cook County Sheriff police and charges get put on someone that dont deserve it like my son.Officer Vlahos beat my son up and when I told the officer I was going to take pictures of my sons chest because he was just involved in a traffice violation the officer told me he is keeping my son for a broken window to the squad which never happened. I called for a watch commander or someone from Bridgeview to come and see what this officer Vlahos did to my son and they would not send anyone, the lady superviser on duty that night said she was to tired she could not come and look at my son’s chest and the Cook County Police officer got away with it, my son had to do the anger management courses and this officer beat him,my son Paul had to do 120 community service because this officer lied and beat him and two years probation because this officer beat him for a traffice altercation, then two years later he stop at a bar for a drink Frankie and Johnnies for a beer for his birthday with a friend he was on foot, the lady that owned the bar Mary called the police and said she heard glass break when he left, the Cook County officer was the same one tackled him to the ground with no proof of damage no glass in her parking lot and arrested my son again, when this lady Mary from the bar called my brother and said does your sister Monique have a son named Paul I think he is locked up she knew she set him up. I called to see why they arrested him the officer told me I dont know yet call him back in two hours and I will tell you. When I called this officer back at Maywood he said that he would look awful stupid if he went in front of a Judge with out any charges, so he looks at my sons record and he says I know I will charge him with another broken window, seeing that the last officer got away with it. I also paid $5000.00 to a lawyer that did nothing for him, that almost cried because my son wanted to go to trial and then the threat if you lose you can get more years. What kind of Governmebt are we running. The lawyer told him he had a 402 conference and if he plead guilty he would get one year and probably get out in six months, so my son did and when he got in front of the Judge in Bridgeview McSweeney – Moore she gave him three and three concurrant for things he did not do. How could the Cook County Sheriff department get away with this. They never questioned the Cook County Sheriff police. If my son had to take a lie detector test he would pass it and I would bet any my life these cops would not.Take away more good behavior on innocent people that are scared for life because of one feloney. I would like to know why these officers are not questioned by the judges and how could they get away with this. No one is out there standing up for my son just threatened with more years if you try to fight your case. The officers are now threatening me that they will not be coming out that they are busy somewhere else. The officer I called ou I just asked what the ordinance was for a barking dog. He said his Lt Murray told me to go on line and look up the ordinance myself. That the police department said I was bi-racist. Because I called on a dog that constantly barks. They are harassing me now.

    • Lisa says:

I have to agree with you. There are people who hold a position that abuse that position. It is unfortunate about waht happaen to your son. I have heard that Frankie & Johnnie’s in Stickney is no more. I guess it is true about what goes around, comes around.

  38. brandi says:

My brother has never been in trouble before…he was with 2 guys who stole something they got out of it and he is serving 3yrs for it…he was offered 180 days in bootcamp he took it..BAD MISTAKE!! had to have a tooth removed before he could go so he went to dentist in prison and had it removed… 2days later the officers from bootcamp picked him up…was doing good in there lasted 9 days before they decided to be jerks and put his food on the floor and told him to eat it like a dog..he then told them no u eat it off the floor im not a dog 2 officers beat him so bad he cant smell out of his nose from it is that anyway for a man who has worked since he was 16 and is now 25 to be treated by these ppl and now to have good time taken away now that he is in prison doing the time???the government needs to wake up and get the drugs and baby rapers off the streets and give the ppl with petty crimes good time……DO THE RIGHT THING THATS WHAT YOUR THERE FOR!!!!MR QUINN

    • jane says:

I think you need to revise your statement a bit. The baby rapers off the streets yes. However, what about the addicts that are not dealing? They get caught with their own stash and end up in prison with no real help. They need help not prison. Oh the prisons do offer generic drug counseling that does nothing. It’s time to stop putting these addicted kids in prison and get them real help! What the state doesn’t seem to realize is it would be cheaper in the long run to help them. To get them the good treatment they need. Maybe they would not become repeat offenders and cost the state way more in the end.

    • monique says:

u better say it i know that’s right

  39. I also think it should be brought back!!! My fiance is in there for something he did not do, and to show you how they (The courts) were on BS!!! They gave the guy that did it forever (110yrs) and my hubby wayyyyy less (20)… I mean that should tell you there!!! I pray they bring it back because a father is away from his kids and his Fiance… There are people the should be there but there not… They let people get out to rap and stalk our kids!!! And keep other people for bs!!! I been in there myself I had a fight lol yup a fight… And got 3 1/2 yrs and had not been in trouble for 14 years b4 that… People have fights everyday!!! But that just shows you!!! And I have not been back!!! Lol no more jail for me!!! They would not even give me work release or nothing!!! They gave it to the people that they knew would come back and not me!!! We need Quinn…

    • Ms. Tapia says:

I really hope the Gov reads this ! I think its really important for him to hear all these comments. It is absoluetly ridiculous that there are people in there that shouldnt be. They complain about IL being broke, well thats b/c there housing so many inmates that shouldnt even be in there ! They really need to bring the good tme back. It would be beneficial in many aspects. There are many judgemental people out threre but obviously Quinn is in the lead for the race still so it cant be that bad!

  40. Karen says:

I am confused…Why is there not at least the electronic bracelet still in effect? It was a safe way of releasing those with non-violent petty crimes. My sister is in there for the first time with no background for bouncing 2 of her own checks at her bank…come on – how many of us have done that (including the politicians). This is crazy!! The judge told her he was going to make an example out of her and next time she writes a check she will think twice…he told her she has a college education so she should know better. What is that??? They let repeating offenders go on probation for more serious crimes than that! QUINN you NEED to DO SOMETHING, we all know if Brady wins nothing will be done!!! Do it right this time and you will have a success. Start with the bracelet that will help bring the state money as I heard the offenders on the bracelet have to pay. HELP those that should not be there!!!

  41. Lisa says:

In all honesty, good time needs to be brought back! The prisoners they let out early was a mistake! But, should our loved ones serving for petty crimes be held accountable for violent offenders actions who were let out early? NO, it is all very simple, let out the non violent offender and keep the violent ones in there! Our government is so messed up as well as the law, there is so much corruptness in the system that it is just not fair to the prisoners who are there for petty traffic violations. What the hell is taking so long to bring back MGT! FIGURE THE SHIT OUT and BRING BACK HOME OUR LOVED ONES. they have suffered long enough in these rediculous prisons which degrade every man in them!!! enough is enough, QUINN do whats right for once!!!

  42. ishootwads says:

I served 7 months when I expected to serve 61 days On a non-violent offence. It sucked! I.d.o.c. is so screwed up its a perfect example of evrything that’s wrong with this country. That being said I may not have got my good time from IDOC but I sure as hell had a good time last night. Home sweet home…….

  43. L.Friess says:

OH YA RICK JAMES YOUR THE LOSER…

  44. L.Friess says:

I feel that good time should come back, however it shouldn’t be given back if your a frequent prison flyer, or if your crime is violent. Everyone deserves alittle slack.I do believe that if you do the crime you should do the time. BRING BACK GOOD TIME TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT.

  45. nookie says:

baby hang here there, it will be over soon. you and everyone who earn they goodtime will be home in no time. just keep praying, god will not let us down, we just got to put our trust in him.

  46. nookie says:

I think it’s very wrong to treat a person they way, they are treating our love ones. please give the goodtime back, my man supposed to be home in oct. set them free.

  47. Penny A. says:

Please bring the good time back. I really cou;d use my husband home with me and our girls.

  48. BRENDA G. says:

BRING THE GOOD TIME BACK! OVER CROWDED ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. San R. says:

Please bring back the good time program. I feel that Illinois should bring back the good time, just because the ones who was released before screwed up doesn’t mean that everyone else should suffer. The mertious good time has worked before and it can and will still continue to work. Those individuals who offended again was going to to offend again regardless if they were let out early. Please do not continue to punish everyone else that are in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Please give the other inmates something to look forward to. I believe just the suspension of the program have taught the inmates a lesson and they would not want to go through this again. Please please bring back this program, my finance has a family who love and need him very much and a new grandchild who really needs him too.

    • dianna gates says:

i agree good time should come back everybody deserve equal opporunity and its costing us millions with the over crowd and how can u hire help idoc if its not in the budget what about the guards safety and our family member safety if it to crowdy we also need to save money so i wont b laid off from my job illinois is the only state doing this its within its not there fault of the system updates quinn we need u now the holiday is coming around and some people is expecting there family

  50. Donna . P says:

Would someone please tell me if they are going to bring back good time . My nephew is still in and still has three years to go but he is only19 and he knows that he did wrong to get in there but when you are that young three more years seem to be a life time if i could tell him that he was going to get good time it would give him something to look farward to . maybe he could work more on how to stay out of there rathar than oh my gosh three more years .. please help me out

  51. Julie Rewerts says:

I agree with so many of the comments on here. My son is sitting in Stateville because we couldn’t afford to get him a good lawyer. Public defenders don’t really work for
the public!! His co-defendant did not serve any time. He is just on probation and had community service……..His
family has $$$$$$$$. Illinois corrupt?? Go figure!

  52. Will Davis says:

Bring back the 90′s I need my wife home, I hate all of Illinois with my heart. Your state sucks and is corrupt as crap!!!

  53. Heather Perez says:

when will this end????? My man should have been home in June……You have extra money to pay your people more but screw the little man who need two incomes, and people are still put away who should be free!!!! HOW MUCH LONGER WILLTHIS GO ON?????

  54. Vicki W. says:

    Rick James,

You are the fool and the loser. You don’t know all the inmates that are in prison and believe it or not there are wrongly accussed ones in there. My son is one of them, not just because he is my son, but because I know the situation that sent him there and I know the history of our sheriff department. They are corrupt and so is the justiced system. He should not be there. Judge lest not you be judged. God is the only true judge and you will be judged for your comments.

  55. Rick James says:

Sally Porter face the facts. Your sons a loser your a loser. If your sons in jail its because he broke the law. You dont go to prison for nothing.

Mrs. Johnson they go to prison for punishment. They dont deserve anything. They were giving out good time to save the state money. Nothing more nothing less. Losers!

Karen Smith- Bogus! If you use that word you think everyone is out to get you. Your husband is around these kind of people, guess what he’s bogus, go get a job raise a family and lay off the crack. Losers.

mellisa jones- It’s the inmates fault they are in prison isn’t it? They are out hanging with the wrong people causing problems for you and your familiy. Your better off, if you can lay down the crack pipe and get a job. Statebaby!

  56. sally porter says:

My son has been incarceration since on July, 2009 in Peoria,County. What was suppose to have happened, there was a misunderstanding between Fulton County and Peoria County. My son was suppose be in court in Fulton County and, there was some confusion between Fulton County and Peoria County as of the time and day.I Sally Porter, my self, called both county to find out what was wrong and asked why my son did not attend his court-date in December,2009.
They told me that made my son not eligable for his good time he had served. My son should be getting out on September 12,2010. The way it is now my son will not get out until march 12,2011. This is very unfair to his whole family, including his fiance’and his five children.
    .

  57. Mrs. Johnson says:

MY OPINION ON THIS SITUATION IS THAT THE GOVERNOR SHOULD NOT PUNISH THE INMATES FOR HIM HAVING POOR JUDGEMENT! THERE ARE SOME INMATES WHO IN FACT DESERVE THE GOOD TIME AND HAVE REHABILITATED THEM SELVES WITH THE EXPERIENCE THEY HAD AT AN IDOC FACILITY! ON THE OTHER HAND I DO UNDERSTAND THAT HE DOES NOT WANT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE! MY HUSBAND IS CURRENTLY SERVING A SENTENCE AT LOGAN CORRECTIONAL AND WE BOTH PRAY THAT THE GOOD TIME BE RE-INSTATED!HE WAS BLESSED ENOUGH TO WHERE HIS BOSS WILL HOLD HIS JOB IF HE DOESNT HAVE TO SERVE THE WHOLE SENTENCE BUT IF HE DOES THEN WHO WILL HIRE A FELON THAT WAS JUST RELEASED FROM PRISON WE HAVE KIDS TO TAKE CARE OF AND BILLS TO PAY! I SAY RE-INSTATE THE GOOD TIME AND IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE WHO WAS RELEASED EARLY AND ENDED UP COMING RIGHT BACK THEN YOU DESERVE TO SERVE THE WHOLE SENTENCE WITH PITTY FROM NO ONE CAUSE ITS YOUR FAULT THAT THE GOOD TIME IS SUSPENDED!

  58. Karen Smith says:

My brother was killed in 2004 by a drunk driver and he got 6 years and had good good time. While my husband is incarcerated for a bogus drug charge, and got 3 years and cant get good time. Not to mention the rightful owner of the drugs testified in court that it was there drugs. Where is the justice. Good time needs to be restored but the corruption needs to end also.

  59. mellisa jones says:

I feel like they should give the goodtime back its not the inmates fault that PAT Quinn did that stoopid shit it was all his fault he ned to let those inmates get they goodtime back ASAP!!!! im ready for mine 2 come home to be with his family…

  60. Rick James says:

The reason Good Time is not back in Illinois is because the majority of people in Illinois DO NOT CARE.

  61. Vicki W. says:

My son has been imprisoned for false charges fabricated by a corrupt police force and Judge. It was all done for political reasons in an election year. The govenor needs to step up and do his job and stop being afraid of not being re-elected. I am tired of hearing rumors from my son that are being told by the officers at the facility and other inmates. We do not know what to believe. My son is a first time offender of a non-violent crime that he is innocent of. He has been inb since January and has had perfect behavior. The good time is earned and deserved by most inmates. Readers please speak out and help us get the truth and good time started.

  62. I DONT UNDERSTAND Y THOUSAND WERE RELEASE EARLY. HOW THEY WERE CHOSEN.SOME WERE KILLER, RAPIST. WHY THEM IS WHAT I WANNA KNOW. MY MAN WAS GUILTY 2 SERVING DRUGS UNDERCOVER POLICEMAN AND HIS PD SAID HE HAVE 1YR. THE SYTEM IS ALL SCREWED UP.JUST IN THE NEWS PAPER I READ A LADY WAS POLISHING HER NAME AND SHE HIT ANOTHER LADY AND WAS SENTENCE LESS THAN 2YR 4 MURDER.

  63. Ashley says:

I do not know how this work. Are they responding to the comments?????
My question is when will they review the situation and make a decision?

  64. ashley says:

    Bring good time back

  65. michae l says:

    BRING GOOD TIME BACK!!!!!!!

  66. Danielle says:

I think the good tome should apply. The ppl in the prisons deserve it and deserve to get a second chance even if close supervision is required. Not to mention all the families on the outside in the real world are suffering just as bad as the people on the inside. I know trust me. Especially if its a first time offence or somethng piddly like ive read (DUI, violations for a beer in a fridge, accepting an offer from the state and when they get there its a whole nother story) Stuff like that is ridiculous and the government wonders why noone trusts themm. Set a good example and give the families and children a break and allow good time.
    Signed,
    A Concerned Mother & Wife

  67. Laurie says:

I am so sick of not getting any news on the inmates in Illinois recieving their good time back. This is ridiculous. I am being mom and dad to five kids. My kids’ father is sitting on a revoked license charge, they won’t release him until November and he should of been home in May if he would of had his good time.

  68. Denise says:

I so agree with you all…when can we expect our men home?Or atleast some sort of STATEMENT from SOMEONE…any kind of news, either way would take a ton of bricks of our heads,Right? My mother in law is disabled and its hard for me to handle on my own…i cant even support myself and had to go on food stamps.Luckily our kids are grown,i feel for you Moms out there. Its time for something to be done!!!And if what weve heard is true (this time!)nothing will eveb be decided untill Nov. 17.He shouldve been home yesterday!!!!!!!Its just UNFAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. Please identify more where can i buy Auto Pet Feeder cheapest.I wanted Auto Pet Feeder and accessories. My friend want it this month. :P

  70. Luan Crable says:

I was prosecuted on some bogus charges drummed up by my ex-husband how is an attorney and good friends with the prosecuting attorney. Definitely a conflict of interest but no one would do anything. By taking away good time it will put me away longer. I am already going to lose my home, car and anything else I own. The statute says two class felonies in a ten year period is mandatory DOC time. These were non-violent crimes, no one was hurt or out any money and they want to put a 55 year old woman in DOC.. I am going to be taken out of the work force for the state to provide for. I need three surgeries that will not be able to wait till I get out–more money for the state of Illinois. What at are the legislators doing. My “crimes” were 8 years apart. I paid for my first one. Why am I being punished again for my first crime. This is all bull-shit. Quinn needs to get the boot out! And soon!

  71. My husband whos at Sheridian Correctional Center was mandated to come to this facility for help with his drug problem and his lawyer told him if he go here and complete the course he would be able to get his good-time if he do what he suppose to do and he went to this facility to get help and he is doing fine there, there are a lot of mens in this facility that are doing what ever they are suppose to do to get clean and they DO NOT HAVE A VIOLENT CRIME so why are they being held here without there 6mths good-time no prior CRIMINAL BACKGROUND . Here goes a facility that spends close to 4,000.00 or more a mouth to help and there about more than hundreds of men that have completed there 9mths treatment and DONT HAVE A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND so why is Pat Qinn complaining about budget and heres a facility that could be look into and free some these prinsoner and THEY DONT DONT DONT HAVE A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND.

  72. Gwen says:

Dear Lord please soften the democratic and the republican party hearts so they can reinstate goodtime. There are so many individual incarcerated for senseless crimes trying to feed there families during this recession. I know they can see the few with job are barely surviving the families need to stay whole and suspending good time is only keeping families apart. Per the idoc website good time is earned and if an inmate earn their time give it to them. Retaining individuals only increase the debt that we are currently in, please reinstate the good time program to release our family members.

  78. Erica Repple says:

Yeah im totally with you guys, my fiance took a plea of 27 mos which with his county time he should have been coming out this july.. with the hold on good time it looks like hes not coming home till Jan. Another x-mas away from his kids. He would have stayed in county if he knew this, it would have been alot closer to home. He applied for work release and they denied him saying he didnt have enough time left,as if he was getting out in july, he talked to him counslor and they say they dont know whats going on. All i know is i read that no change was gonna be made till fall 2010 or after the election. im all for getting together and doing a protest for some answers.. e-mail me if anyone is up for it and lives in the chicago land area.. numbr1@yahoo.com

My godmother is doing a light sentence at Decatur Correctional Center my moms say that the officers eat up the prisoners food, they feed them like they are dogs, all this money the state is getting for each prisoner, they should not be treated like dogs, there loved ones are already going through a lot and not to mention they are too…

Hi, my husband is in IDOC on a minor case, they put him in the wrong facility at one point so I went through high waters to get him moved, after contacting the senator of IL and threatening a law suit I got him transferred. I’m wondering if we can find a state rep to help us out with the good time. If anyone has any info or insight please email me and let me know. In our constitution it states that they have to give inmates at least the 3 months the other 3 months is optional, but they can not go against the constitution this was passed in the 70′s. Something must be done. ruffolo_andrea@yahoo.com

  81. Andra says:

My fiance B28975 is in on a driving offense. I have contacted the parole board and no response. If the good time is reinstated he will come home in July if not it will be January. I’m wondering what is the problem with the state that they can’t get the ball rolling. All we can do is pray and support our love one untill god brings him home to us. Hang in there know your not alone

  82. MRS.LIBRA says:

IS IT JUST ME OR HAS THE GOVERNOR TAKEN AWAY FROM NOT ONLY THE INMATES, BUT THEIR FAMILIES TRUST FOR FAIR TREATMENT. I HAVE A HUSBAND IN IDOC THAT IS ALSO WAITING ON GOOD TIME. HOWEVER, WITH NO PROVAIL HAVE WE RECEIVED ANY ANSWERS. MY OPINION IS THAT WE ALL GET TOGETHER AND ORGANIZE A RALLY AND DEMAND SOME ANSWERS. BECAUSE FROM THE LOOKS OF IT, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN PUT ON THE BACK BURNER. AFTERALL, WE THE PEOPLE VOTED FOR OUR LIBERTY,FREEDOM,AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

  83. christine says:

I am all about the 61 days, I get that however the confusion is this based on all I read there is good time but must serve 61 days. When I research it is said it is entirely on hold. Can someone please clarify? The Gov. Screwed up and is so scared about election year. I can promise there are over 45,000 inmates that have loved ones that will NEVER vote for him! Quinn there are people that deserved to be punished but people that obey and get “correctional” help should be released!! Why should good people in a bad place that made mistakes suffer for your greedy unethical screw up.

  84. Lisa says:

Bring Good time back! it is so important for inmates to come home to their famiolies for serving petty crimes! i need to know when good time will be reinstated!! it is so important to me that good time is offered back quick. QUINN what the hell are u thinking! get off ur ass and do something productive, GIVE BACK GOOD TIME!

  85. Cory says:

Hey I am 100% for Inmates getting there EARNED good time back. Please let there be more then 50 comments on here. Everyone reading this please tell people to get involved. We need to show Quinn we will not vote unless he shows he is working FOR his voters. Notice 49 out of the 50 comments on this page is supporting the good time to come back. Thats because the people who do not have loved ones or they are not involved do not care. BRING GOOD TIME BACK!!! GET INVOLVED!!!!

  86. Alicia Kane says:

It is very confusing when the governors office and keeps sending out statements saying that IDOC is able to give good time, however, i called the IDOC office and their statement to me was that all good time is suspended until further notice. So if the governor did not intend for them to totally suspend good time for all inmates under any circumstances, then this is just another example of poor communication between these offices. In truth it will be suspended until the house reconvenes in the fall, and the new chief of public safety has finished his review. Bogus and unfair…easily remedied by the votes that will be counted in November elections…

My son took a plea with the understanding from his attorney and states attorney he would get day for day already served, have to serve 50% of his 3 yr. sentence, 6 months good time plus good time for any classes or work programs he entered while in prison. Once in IDOC, none of that took place. We’ve been told he is not eligible for any good time, work programs. Nothing. I don’t understand how the IDOC can go against the judges ruling. Could someone Please tell me who I need to contact. You pay all that money to have an attorney defend you and get this.

  93. Linda Jares says:

Is the good time for Illinois Prisoners going to be restored or not? The State is in such debt now, keeping the Prisoners in Prison that have already served their 61 days and not received good time seems not to be an intelligent move since it cost approximately 35,000.00 per year per prisoner, perhaps you could cut the deficit quite a bit if you gave the non-violent offenders their good time that has been earned and let them out. Keeping the prisoners locked up is not going to help you win the race for Governor in this election because there are a lot of people who are suffering because their loved ones are still locked up. How can you make a law retroactive when most laws go into effect when they are signed into law. Please give some consideration to reinstating good time for prisoners and letting some of them that are entitled got home so they can support their families and the State of Illinois does not have to.

  94. Elizabeth Doneghue says:

To all the Women outthere who’s husbands or boyfriends doing more time then they should for petty crimes lets start a network forv support because i too am hurting with three children and a husband locked up im so confused about this goodtime stuff too i dont understand they try to help us off public assistance but then they pull this crap. Im lost, lonely and struggling trying to explain to a 7,9,and 10 year old why daddy didn’t get to come home last month has gotten harder and harder. PLEASE HELP if u have any insite on whats going on. edoneghue@yahoo.com HELP,HELP,HELP!!!!!!!!

  95. angela says:

You still have not answered any questions. Is there Good Time or not????We have people in jail for treffic tickets which is stupid. Send them home and use the system for real criminals. we could use that extra money for our schools.THE GOVERNMENT IS SORRY. We are using prisons as modern slavery which is also not right and against the law. Get real stop locking people up for traffic tickets, like speeding and running red lights……Come on peolpe the world is going to hell really fast. Lets stop the train reck!!!!!

  96. Linda Jares says:

I am writing because my friend took a plea being told that he would only do 6 months at tops. He is in on driving on a revoked license, not a DUI or anything else. His counselor sent him a note saying that he had received his first 90 days of good time but the second was denied. He has now served 180 days as of May 3rd and is eligible for immediate release as soon as the Governor gets off his duff and does something about the changes. The State is in trouble money wise, does he not see that he is spending thousands of dollars unnecessarily, there are many prisoners that are being held that could be on the streets supporting their families and helping raise their children. TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT IS GOING ON AND CUT YOUR BUDGET BY REINSTATING GOOD TIME, EVERYONE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR SOME FOOLISH MISTAKE THAT WAS MADE BY YOUR OFFICE BY RELEASING THE WRONG PRISONERS WHOM SOME HAD NOT EVEN SERVED 60 DAYS. i AGREE THAT EVERYONE SHOULD SERVE AT LEAST 61 DAYS BEFORE BEING CONSIDERED FOR RELEASE BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS, TAKING AWAY EVERYONES GOOD TIME BECAUSE A FEW PEOPLE SCREWED UP, OUT OF 1700 PRISONERS THAT WERE RELEASED THERE WERE ABOUT 48 THAT ARE RETURNED FOR VIOLATIONS OF THEIR PAROLE OR COMMITTING ANOTHER CRIME. THAT IS NOT A HIGH ENOUGH PERCENTAGE TO PUNISH EVERYONE.

  97. MrsP says:

what the fuck is wrong with this governer. my fiance and i are expecting a baby in july. he was supposed to be out in june now we are looking at december becuase of this guys mistake!!!

  101. Rasheeda says:

OK WHAT THE HELL IS GOVERNOR QUINN DOING???? MY HUSBAND IS MISSING OUT ON OUR SON’S FIRST YEAR. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED LAST MONTH. OUR BABY IS 7 MONTHS OLD NOW AND I CAN’T TAKE THIS BS FROM THESE DARN POLITICIANS. JUST BECAUSE A FEW PEOPLE SCREWED UP DOES NOT MEAN THAT EVERYONE HAS TO SUFFER. Y NOT JUST PUNISH THOSE WHO MESSED UP AND GIVE THESE OTHER INMATES BACK THEIR GOOD TIME. THIS IS REDICULOUS!!! I COULD’VE SWORN THAT AS LONG AS THEY ARE ELIGIBLE, STATE LAW SAYS GIVE IT TO THEM…..HELLLOOOO QUINN I NEED MY HUSBAND HOME TO HELP TAKE CARE OF OUR CHILDREN…….

  102. Shanna says:

my boyfriend was in county jail from 7/13/2009 to 4/1/210 and sent to IDOC on the first. he tried to fight his case of a possession of a firearm with defaced serial number. hes been in county since he was 17 he turn 18 in october. now its saying he wont be relased til 10/13/2010 but is he going to get his good time or what? thats what im trying to find out cuz if he does that means he only has to do 61 days right>? idk please someone help

  103. shannon says:

I also agree w/ terry on some kind of lawsuit and also agree w/ about how the inmates should not have
to pay for gov. quinns mistakes. My bf took 18mos. for a lousy criminal trespassing relying on good time to actually be released the end of april and now is looking @ getting released not until the end of october. We have had a challenging relationship since march 2009 but have overcome it all & really love each other & want to continue on but almost a year apart is going to put strain once again on the relationship. He is really ready to change his life for the better & move on & get work. I also agree w/ there being some kind of help or program for inmates after their release and no discrimination for felons trying to find work since they are quite capable of work and would also help to keep them out of further trouble-DUH ! Come on & quit taking your sweet time on the suspension & do your job or at least form a website w/ updates!

  104. Mar says:

everyone who reads this should go to the website of the Petition for Meritorious Good Time and sign that petition to the Governor. I don’t know what’s going to help but we must try.

  105. Stacey says:

The terms above say that the inmates can get their good time but it says that it is also suspended so really what is it? My fiance was sentenced to 5 years in IDOC and has an out date of 2 1/2 years and no good time. My opionion is that if they do right and do schooling , working, anything that is positive they should get their good time. Obviously you have them in custody wouldn’t you think that would be enough if they earn it. There are so many people that could care less about their time or what is out in the real world but i bet there is more in there that do care and could make something positive out of them selves including their loved ones. They should also have a place where phelons could be employed and have a reason to be here and have the chance to change but there is nothing like that at all. Please consider to give the good time to the inmates. Inmates and there loved ones would appreciate it. Thank You.

  106. Katie Nichols says:

My fiance should have been home march 12 this is crazy all these inmates have to sit when they are supposed to be released because of Governor Quinn mistakes!!!!

  107. Sara says:

This is ridiculous. I’m so sick of Quinn I could scream, but the Republicans are worse, the Republicans want to do away with MGT completely!

To those of you who are impacted, especially those of you whose inmate should have been released already: the best thing to do is contact your State Representative and Senator and ask for their assistance. They are in office to serve you.

    • rose hodges says:

I totally agree with you! We shouldn’t just stop when our love ones return home, we should continue this because we do have more than enough of men and women imprisoned either innocent or petty crimes that doesn’t constitute this unfairness.

  108. Robin says:

My husband is currently in idoc for a very light sentence. I was just recently informed that The Governors Good time was been suspended. I really think that needs to be back in action. My husbin could of stayed in county jail for 120 days but choise to go to idoc for 2 months but when he got there he found out that the good time had been suspended now has to do 2 more month then he would of if he would of just stayed in the county jail. He took the deal thinking he would be home sooner to his family that needs him. Why should inmates have to pay for the Governors mistake? Ever one makes mistake even the Governor but he’s not the one paying for it the inmate who are already paying for there crims are know having to pay for his too.

  109. Shante says:

My husband is currently in idoc for a very light sentence. I was just recently informed that The Governors Good time was been suspended. I really think that needs to be back in action. My husband and i just recently had another child which is only 4 weeks old, already have a 4 year old. Our children need their father,my husband is a very good man and a great father. He is in idoc just on a mistake or should i say a misunderstanding. Now the state Governor should not take away the goodtime because of his mistake because my husband is no murderer. If it was one of the Governors family members in idoc, i wonder how soon will he release the good time back than?

  110. concerned says:

can someone contact me please as to the result in this whole political scam?
and if goodtime is being merrited?

  111. chelsi beesley says:

i just want to know when or if good time will be used again?

  112. Chris says:

I am with you Terry. I think there should be a lawsuit of some kind filed. There are plenty of inmates who took plea bargains expecting to be out within a certain amount of time. There has to be some kind of misrepresention suit that could be filed. It should not be up to the offenders to pay for the mistakes of Gov. Quinn just because its an election year. I will start trying to contact some Chicago lawyers this week and see if anything can be done regarding the “good time” situation. I have also been in contact with IDOC offices and they are feeling the crunch of this suspension. There are inmates living in
bad conditions because of the overcrowding and families having to turn to welfare to support themselves during this extra time their loved ones are having to serve. Needless to say…do not re-elect Quinn!

  113. lavonne says:

My guy was supose to get his 6-months good time for the month of march what going on?please let him out he need to be with his family someone need to let me know what going on?

  114. Mary Restko says:

Is there any way to get information on the status of MGT? My brother took a plea deal to serve 61 days for a non violent offense to make sure he would be at his daughter’s college graduation in May. He should have been released March 23rd and now has to serve until Sept. 23rd. I’m assuming none of this will be resolved until after the election in November. Is this correct? If so, the State broke their end of the “deal”. Can my brother appeal his case and go back to trial? Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you, Mary Restko

  115. TERRENCE COBBS says:

Can someone please contact me and let me know what’s going on b4 my fiancee drive me crazy. Her son is in prison & right now his outdate is 11/18/2010 if he get six months goodtime he’ll be home next month 05/18/2010. he want us to send him $800 so he can get tv, radio, typewriter, more shoes, etc. not counting all the $20′s & $50′s he coulda been saving & got all that. Are they giving out goodtime or have they stopped all together? I’m from the “hood” & i’ve talked to guys who just came home & they all got their ^ months goodtime, my fiancee’s son only got a retaail theft, why he hasn’t got his yet, is he gonna get it?

  116. jaime says:

my boyfriend is due to be released in may i am too new at this and desperatly nee some answers. people make mistakes an i am a witness that people do learn from their mistakes and change for the better. life is to short as it is an our family nee him back so we can get on with our lives. i completly believe that the election has a lot to do with this. these are humanbeings who deserve the right to move on. quit thinking about yourselves an get on with it

  117. chandra says:

my son has served his time and was to be release in march.with included his good tme when is going to start again. i need some answers

  118. Whitaker says:

My husband also was told by his attorney to turn down boot camp becuz of the MGT , and that he would serve a shorter sentence . As soon as he did this and got to IDOC they suspended this and now he is incarcerted for a non violent offense for way longer than he would have been . How long does this review take? Please give some information soon.

  119. kassie says:

is there still a good time????? my brother was supposed to have a good time, and is still not out please tell me!is there or is there not gunna be a good time?

  120. TamikaDawson says:

My understanding is that an inmate have to serve 61 days before being considered for MGT but i have heard people tried to apply and was turned down saying that it still is on hold. I am really new at this. I feel that people should serve their time but i feel that they “officials” should keep their promises to inmates that have served their time or had light time should get out.

I just think that since this is a election year they making an example out of the ones that are still in Jail. I hope the ones that is in will learn a lesson and stay out. they “officials” say that “they (inmate) will most likely offend again and will be right back in jail. maybe true but why punish everyone. BEST BELIEVE THAT IF THEIR LOVED ONES WAS IN JAIL THEY WOULD MAKE SURE THIS BILL DONT GET PASSED!!

  121. terry ewing says:

My wife took a plea bargin thinking that there was the meterious good time still in effect,i dont think that its is fair for them to take it away when she plead knowing there was ,i think its time to get a attorney to see what can be done about this big mess up..they treat animals with more respect .get your (SHIT) together.GOV>>>..i feel that a law suit is in order.lets all make something happen we as a people have the power.lets get r done……………..thanks terry ewing…

  122. thomas potter says:

im wondering if the good time is instated or not.its all confusing for me .if it wasnt for this suspension my dad would we home next month.so please answer me.

  123. terry ewing says:

I believe that the good time needs to be put back in place to let the prisoners who have done there time get back on with their lifes & familys,,Meritorious good time should be reinstated…..my wife is in there for a stupid crime, dui should she have to do a year for thst i think not………….

  124. Reginald says:

I REALIZE THAT THERE ARE THOSE WHO NEEDS TO BE UNDER A FORM OF CORRECTION (SOME GREATER THAN OTHERS).BUT, THERE ARE THOSE WHO FALL UNDER THE FACT THAT ” BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE”. AND IF ONLY AFTER A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME SERVED THEY MIGHT BE RELEASE TO PROVE THEMSELVES OTHERWISE.!! YOU KNOW THIS WHEN ITS YOUR LOVE ONE!! PLEASE CONSIDER.

  125. christina says:

My husband is being held in idoc custody because they are not giving the inmates their good time. I need him home!! We have 4 little girls that need their daddy. People please quit taking your time with this situation…thanks

  126. chantelle says:

im just wanting the ban lifted so that prisoners can be released that serverd there time and have the good time coming to them thanks

  127. marcia says:

i am confused is there still good time in idoc???? Everything i have read says there is, Can anyone please explain the 180 day mandatory sentence revoked/dui. How can it be inforced if dui happened in 1992 and time was served??/
