Suburban alderman arrested, charged with theft

WARRENVILLE, Ill. (STMW)  — A west suburban alderman was arrested Monday on charges on theft by deception.

The arrest of Christopher Halley, 26, came after a six-month investigation, according to a release from Warrenville police, who allege he defrauded a victim in September and November 2009 of more than $300 in cash.

Upon review of the case, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office authorized one charge of theft by deception, a Class 3 felony, and one count of deceptive practice, a Class 4 felony, a release from police said.

No further information on the charges was immediately available.

Halley was released after posting a $5,000 cash bond, police said. He is scheduled to appear in DuPage County Circuit Court on at 8:30 a.m. on March 13.

While police did not identify Halley as an alderman, his address was listed as Ascot Lane, the same as Ald. Halley’s listed address on Warrenville’s Web site listing of aldermen. He was elected to a four-year term in 2007, according to the Web site.
