Teen Shot Outside Gage Park High

Chicago – A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg outside of Gage Park High School on the Southwest Side on Wednesday morning.

About 8 a.m., the boy was walking to school with a group of people on the 2600 block of West 57th Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

Someone armed with a handgun began firing and struck the boy in the leg, Sullivan said.

The boy was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

It is at least the second shooting in just over a week outside of Gage Park High. Last Monday, shortly before 8 a.m., an 18-year-old admitted gang member was shot in the back on the 2400 block of West 55th.

That victim was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition with a gunshot to the back, police said. According to preliminary information from the scene, the victim told police he believed whoever shot him was from a rival gang.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating both incidents.
