CHICAGO (WBBM) — The USS Chicago, an attack submarine based at Pearl Harbor, has a new commander today, because the Navy says the previous skipper was relieved of his command for “drunkenness and conduct unbecoming an officer.”
It was Harold Washington, who, as mayor of Chicago, spoke at the commissioning of the USS Chicago in September of 1986.
On Monday, the commander of the USS Chicago, Jeff Cima, was relieved of his duty for what the Navy calls “drunkenness and conduct unbecoming an officer.”
The Navy says Cima’s command of the Chicago was taken away because of his “misconduct and a loss of confidence in his ability to command.”
The Navy says the drunkenness stems from an incident at a mainland ROTC facility a week ago.
The USS Chicago is a Los Angeles-class, 360-foot-long nuclear-powered attack submarine based at Pearl Harbor, with a crew of 143.
