PHILADELPHIA—Julius Greer, 35, of West Philadelphia, was sentenced today to 180 months in prison for a violent armed robbery at a West Philadelphia business in which a 65-year-old woman was bound and beaten. On October 9, 2009, Greer and his cohorts robbed the office of UACT Associates Corporation, a property management business located at 3705 Powelton Avenue. Greer was the mastermind, being familiar with the business because he had worked there. He also knew his victim well, having done work on her home. Greer’s conspirators brandished a loaded handgun, bound the victim with duct tape, and beat her with a wooden club wrapped in duct tape. They then dragged her to the back of the office before running away.
On October 18, 2011, a federal jury convicted Greer of conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce by robbery, interference with interstate commerce by robbery, knowingly using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. Greer’s father had also been employed by the victim and her husband. But, as a direct result of Greer’s actions, his father is no longer employed by the victims.
Greer’s co-defendants, Patrick Hancotte and Sean Stock, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 78 and 71 months, respectively.
The case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
