(CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM) – Today marks three years since John Spira disappeared from his West Chicago office, and DuPage County authorities say they are investigating it as a missing persons case.
A former federal prosecutor thinks it should be treated as a murder case.
John Spira was a musician, a pilot and co-owner of a business in West Chicago. Three years ago today, he vanished.
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Tad DiBiase says he’s convinced Spira is dead – and was murdered.
Spira did not, DiBiase says he believes, not kill himself.
“Oh I’m very strongly convinced. People like that don’t just disappear.”
“You can’t bury yourself. You can’t burn yourself up. Generally you jump into a body of water and maybe disappear that way. But most bodies, as gross as it is, rise to the surface of the water.”
DiBiase was contacted by John Spira’s sister Stephanie McNeil, who has led the search for Spira.
DiBiase says he’s tracking this as a “no body” murder case.
“It’s an interesting case because typically the victim in the ‘no body’ case is a female.”
Think, as some would allege, Stacy Peterson.
DiBiase has taken the case pro-bono–at no charge. He says his job is to work with Spira’s family and police – to maybe nudge police into pursuing some new leads.
“Generally most people don’t want to kill random people. They want to kill people who piss them off of jilted them.”
The DuPage County sheriff’s office says it is still investigating, calling it a “missing persons” case.

I am psychic and when watching this show I knew as soon as they said he went missing he was dead. He is buried in some kind of trench behind a red brick building that is long and low to the ground. If you are standing with the trench in front of you and the building on the other side of it, to the right and somewhat behind the building but in front of the trench is a tree and it has grown crooked and somewhat leans forward.
I am not sure about this but I get the feeling he was stabbed in the neck with a syringe and there was a man that did it. I also get the feeling the wife has friends in the police department and this is why certain things are not being looked into. He was wrapped in the missing plastic.
There are so many questions with the show. Why wasn’t more said about the wife. With an angry divorce going on between them she would be the first person most police would be checking in to. Secondly I thought it odd that the brother and the sister did not mention either the wife or the girlfriend other than to say that he and the wife were supposed to have hammered out their divorce settlement. She says it never happened. Where is his attorney who could prove that she is lying about that?. Way too many unanswered questions here.
The wife knew the man who killed him. She was having some sort of relationship with him. He is married. There is so much more to this story than meets the eye. I hope this family has some real help from DiBiase because the have not gotten it from the police. No matter who takes on investigating this they need to be careful as well.
The people who did this do not want to be found out and they will no doubt come after anyone who starts poking around.
I hope to see the family and girl friend have closure. Keep stirring the pot it will eventually boil over. It seems it is bothering the less intelligent one of the duo. Call it a gut feeling they will slip up.
I watched the show and I can’t get it off my mind. They say its someone you know well when a crime has been commuted. If you read between the lines the most obvious is right in front of you the whole time. Timing is everything and it seems in this story the family of John Spiral knows who is involved but needs to put more evidence together. The business partner would know how to use the equipment and to get into the business to have a heavy roll of commercial plastic disappear. Then to claim he saw him leave as acting innocent not to draw any attention to him.The exwife being a partner would know this man well. The ex. was obvious that she wanted to stay married for financial reasons. She also knew John had no intentions of ever wanting to be with her. That she must have had her anger knowing he was happy with the new woman in his life. Her reason for not calling him in as missing was because she knew he wasn’t. But to keep off suspicions she calls him in missing. Her last minute settling was calculated. She refused to move out of the house because she knew he would fight for it. The signs being destroyed is something a not so bright angry woman would do. She feels she will win all if she can keep her mouth shut. The business partner being clever is not going to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Now it’s hot.
We watched this 5-9-10 and we just have so many thoughts about what could of happened and one was why didn’t they check the cameras on the stop lights or shouldn’t they have checked in side the building after it was already burned or what about this plastic wrap we both think thats a clue i mean shouldn’t they do a full on search of who went to the building most buildings have cameras. Shouldn’t the CAMERAS have picked up the kiddnapper????????But we still can’t get this guy out of our heads and we are always thinking about john. I hope you find who has done this nasty crime and he should suffer not the family.
Since the person probably responsible tore down two signs and probably burned down his business they probably have alot invested in the story not getting out. POST A THIRD SIGN AND WATCH IT THIS TIME!! If this person was bold enough to tear down two signs why would’nt they do it again?

Andres,si es cierto lo que comentas tambien vi el caso recientemente en discovery y me fije que la esposa no sale para nada y logico pensando super mal, a ella le convenia no firmar el divorcio por que con la muerte de el(tal vez) ella saldria beneficiada,ahora por que no pusieron algunas camaras de video para ver quien quitaba la lona con la informacion ,otro punto..contactar a una psiquica no les podria ayudar????bueno eso digo yo ya que es lo mas feo no saber donde esta tu ser querido.
Primero que nada quiero decir que soy de Uruguay hoy19/07/2010 vi. Este caso en discóbery y me quede como con una sensación de impotencia o no se como explicarlo,

Por todo lo que pude ver nunca llegaron a siquiera investigar a la esposa en separación que tenia.
Para mí ahí esta el asunto
Paso 1 la esposa después de tiempo de conflicto justo esa mañana esta de acuerdo con los puntos y arreglos del divorcio como para que todos supieran que ya no había mas conflicto en el divorcio y no levantar sospechas de lo que pasaría en la noche ( por si encontraban el cuerpo no miraran hacia ella porque no había mas conflicto)Johon tenia que desaparecer antes de firmar algún papel ,lo de estar de acuerdo con las pautas del divorcio era solo para que no sospecharan de ella ya que se había arreglado todo ( sin llegar a las firmas) pero creo que dio resultado el aparente arreglo fingido por ella ya que nadie la dio por sospechosa por lo que vi. (Fue una distracción para mi punto de vista )
Paso: 2 Cuando la novia insistió con que había desaparecido ella decía que no que el no que era medio así (se hizo la desentendida) mejor si no apareé(o de repente ya sabia que no iba a aparecer y quería tratar de que fuera para mas larga la cosa)
paso 3: el royo de nailon que falto del carrete de cable es casi obvio que se uso para envolverlo, mirando todo lo sucedido por TV ( el discobery) para mi que lo mando a matar la esposa tal vez con un asesino a sueldo o algún novio que tenia ella en ese momento , ahí en ese lugar ( su oficina ) habían retros (por lo que dijeron en discobery),analizándolo detenidamente lo deben de haber enterrado ahí mismo con un retro pueden hacer un poso de varios metros de profundidad, de repente justo donde había tierra movida o algo similar ( haber si me explico hacer un pozo donde ya había tierra movida en el lugar, hacer el poso taparlo dejar la parte de arriba movida o amontonada igual como estaba )ya que en ese lugar habían maquinas no levantaría sospecha que estuviera trabajando un rato, dos días de ( por lo que vi. en discobery) nieve borraría huellas de ruedas o similares del trabajo
Pienso que podría de haber echo esto para no llamar la atención entrando con un vehiculó mas el transporte hasta otro lugar etc., solo uno a pie entra y se va como vino.
Lo que afirma mas para mí esta teoría de que lo enterraron hay mismo es lo de la pancarta que pusieron enfrente buscándolo, la sacaron desconocidos………….. La pusieron de nuevo y otra vez la sacaron ( ¡o la quemaron! ) pero esta vez quisieron ir mas lejos quemando la empresa para que ya no hubiese gente en la vuelta como para frenar . Estaban muy cerca del terreno
¿Tenia seguro las oficinas? ¿Quien era el beneficiario?
(No se si en este momento han construido o ay gente en ese lugar ahora pero si esta abandonado mas se refuerza lo de que puede estar enterrado ahí ya que estando en abandono sin construir o abitar es menos probable de que se encuentre el cuerpo por casualidad haciendo alguna perforación de construcción o similar.
La esposa niega el arreglo ahora (solo era distracción) y el otro no quiere el polígrafo ¿no abra alguna conexión entre ellos ?
Si con estas ideas puedo ser de alguna ayuda a alguien que este investigando bienvenido sea y sino bueno
Son solo ideas de alguien que no conoce todos los detalles a fondo y solo le gustaría saber la verdad de lo ocurrido. Solo digo lo que sentí y vi. Un poco más allá de la pantalla

Realmente lamento la perdida de sur ser querido, vi el programa de tv y por lo que dicen creo fue un trabajdor de la empresa contratado por la esposa que en ningun momento salio a decir que lamentaba la perdida de john y ademas el letrero lo quitaron y quien lo quito tuvo que ser alguien que pasa por ahi todo el tiempo y luego el incendio que casualidad… deben investigar si para el momento se ejecutaba alguna obra lejos del lugar de trabajo tal vez ahi lo colocaron. y solo lo pudo hacer alguien que trabaja en la compañia de john..

How can nobody have thought to post surviellence. Wow, the Chicago P.D. must really suck. I definitely would not want to work with a Police Department like that (speaking as someone who’s in Law Enforcement). It’s easy, either the family or Police, or both should’ve posted surviellence: a hidden camera, and if possible someone hiding with it. I would’ve done that for a family memeber hands down.
This really makes Chicago P.D. look incompetent.
I watched the Discovery ID today 7 June 2010, and was very moved by what I saw and heard.
Usually the police suspect the person who has the most to gain from someone’s death. To me it is obvious that he was murdered because he had so much to live for and things were just beginning to go well for him.
Did the police check the most recently dug trench where the cable had been buried?
Reminds me of the film “War of the Roses”. We never had any input from the “wife” (soon -to- be ex-wife), whose daughter flew of the handle and murdered someone – could this fiery temper be hereditary?
Also, has the family considered getting a PSYCHIC to try another approach to finding out what happened to such a very popular man?
I am praying that something will come to light and that the culprit will make a mistake.
Alex – I had the exact thought when I saw the show. When the first sign was torn down and they started to say they were putting another one up I literally was yelling at the TV(no one was home luckily) “PUT CAMERAS ON IT! PUT CAMERAS ON IT!!!!” until they said nothing of surveillence or cameras on the second sign. I was outraged. I am sorry but how stupid could they be? what about the police department? did they tell the police that the first sign was torn down, and tell them when they were putting the second one up? If so, the police should have known off the bat to put a camera up on the second sign. So all in all either the family was too incompetent to put cameras on their second sign themselves, and/or too incompetent to tell the police, and if they did tell the police, then the police are VERY incompetent to not have surveillance.
I’m sorry but in that little bit of the whole story, they just left too many holes, they being the police, the family, and the show not putting enough details.
I watched the Disappeared show, and I had a thought. After the first sign was torn down I would have became really curious as to who did it, so after putting up the second sign, I would have set up some kind of surveillance. Either by hiding and watching the sign with a camera to see who would come back… I have no idea why no one thought of that.
I know this is kind of way after the fact, but I thought I would comment anyway.

I watched the show 4-18-2010 and just can’t stop thinking-
After the fire was there a search for any remains? Even if the building was thought to be empty, it just seems that with the signs put and torn down, did someone think will they search the building again?
And is their a traffic light at this location? Some lights have a camera attached. ??
I just think he never left the building?
