There’s still no word from the jury in the trial of ex-Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and his brother, Robert. It’s now been two weeks since jurors began deliberating.
Everyone from the judge to reporters to the defendants and their attorneys is left to wonder what’s going on behind closed doors. Robert Blagojevich’s lawyer Michael Ettinger has a theory.
ETTINGER: I think they’re fighting. They’re doing their job.
The jury is weighing four counts against Robert; 24 against ex-governor Blagojevich. His attorney, Sam Adam, Jr., was asked if Blagojevich was prepared for the possibility of a guilty verdict.
ADAM JR: No, you can never be prepared for that. How do you look at your children on Tuesday, and Wednesday, you leave them? Who can prepare for that? And if that’s the case, if that’s what comes, he’s going to have to do that. Nobody can prepare for that. The man loves his family.
If Blagojevich is found guilty, it would likely be several months before he’s sentenced.
Adam says the ex-governor has been staying home for the most part, waiting for the verdict.
