White Sox Agree to Terms With Second-Round Draft Choice Trayce Thompson

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a minor-league contract with outfielder Trayce Thompson, their second-round choice (61st overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Santa Margarita High School in Ladera Ranch, Calif.

Thompson, 18, hit .333 (26-78) with six doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 22 RBI in 27 games last season. He led the Eagles in home runs and slugging percentage (.833) and ranked second in RBI.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder also played basketball in high school, helping to lead his team to a 30-5 record and the California Division III Championship in 2008.

Thompson, the son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson, was recommended by White Sox scout Mike Baker and will make his professional debut with Advanced Rookie Bristol.

His brother, Klay, was named to the Pac 10 All-Freshman Team at Washington State in 2008-09 after averaging 12.5 points and 4.2 rebounds. Another brother, Mychel, averaged 9.6 points and 3.5 rebounds last season as a junior at Pepperdine University.

With his signing, the White Sox have agreed to terms with 38 players from their 2009 draft class, including their first four and 10 of their first 12.
